Summary[]
Dora has tried and tried, but never conquered the monkey bars. If she wants to retry it, she'll have to prove it by going to Play Park by going over the Troll Bridge, and going up Windy Hill. Can the viewer help Dora climb all the away across the monkey bars?
Plot[]
Dora and Boots are looking at a photo album filled with memories of their past adventures. The first picture shows the time they found the buried treasure chest with the Pirate Pigs and Pirate Parrot. The second picture captures their journey helping Little Star get home to the Moon. The third picture depicts the time they rescued Prince Ramon from the High Tower and trapped the mean witch in his magic ball, after which the witch eventually turned nice.
As they turn another page, Boots spots a picture of Dora at Play Park, where she was trying to conquer the monkey bars. Boots initially thinks Dora made it all the way across, but the truth is, she didn't. She had tried repeatedly but hadn't been able to cross all the way, finding it quite difficult. Boots decides he wants to help Dora finally make it across the monkey bars.
So, they ask Map for the best way to Play Park. Map informs them they need to cross the Troll Bridge and climb over Windy Hill to reach their destination.
Dora and Boots arrive at the Troll Bridge. This time, instead of riddles, the Grumpy Old Troll wants to see if Dora and Boots can touch their nose, touch their toes, reach up high, and tickle the sky. Dora and Boots successfully perform all the actions: touching their noses and toes, reaching high, and tickling the sky. The Troll is impressed and lets them cross his bridge.
Next, Dora and Boots head toward Windy Hill. Suddenly, they see Tico the squirrel, who is holding a camera. Dora walks along the path while Boots swings across using vines before landing back on the path. Dora and Boots admire Tico's camera, thinking it's nice.
Suddenly, they hear Swiper. They correctly think he'll try to swipe Tico's camera. Sure enough, Swiper appears from inside a tree hole, swipes Tico's camera, and hides it. But Tico quickly climbs up the tree to where Swiper hid the camera. Tico's camera is hanging on a high branch. Tico climbs up a series of ladders, and upon reaching the third ladder, he gets back his camera. Tico then climbs back down the ladders and runs down the tree with the camera in hand.
Dora and Boots continue on their way to Play Park, but first, they must go over Windy Hill. They encounter a wind cloud that blows very cold air. Knowing they need to stay warm, Dora and Boots check Backpack, who has warm clothes for them. A blue cursor selects a purple jacket, two purple mittens, and a purple hat for Dora, and a red jacket, two red mittens, and a red hat for Boots. Dora and Boots put on their new warm clothes and zip up their zippers.
The mischievous Wind Cloud then decides to play a trick, blowing the biggest and strongest wind yet to stop them from getting over Windy Hill. "Ha ha," he laughs as he blows as hard as he can. Dora and Boots stomp their way up Windy Hill, and when they reach the top, the Wind Cloud is impressed and a little intrigued that they made it through his strongest wind. The Wind Cloud then gives them a ride down by blowing gently on Dora and Boots, allowing them to float down and land softly on the path. The Fiesta Trio flies by on a hang glider, playing their fanfare. Dora and Boots take off their warm clothes and put them back inside Backpack.
So far, Dora and Boots have crossed the Troll Bridge and gone over Windy Hill. They are now very close to Play Park, which is located on a giant grassy hill. They spot Pinto the Pony, who is now out of the Wild West. They call out to Pinto and ask for a ride up to Play Park. Pinto whinnies "yes" in response. Dora and Boots climb onto Pinto's back and begin their ride up to Play Park.
Dora and Boots hope their friends will see Dora cross the monkey bars. They find Tico on the swing set, Benny in the sandbox, Isa riding her scooter on the path, Big Red Chicken pushing Tico on the swing, and Baby Blue Bird sliding down the slide. Once Pinto gets Dora and Boots to Play Park, Boots makes a big announcement: Dora is going to try to climb all the way across the monkey bars. Their friends cheer for her. Tico even plans to take a picture of Dora on the monkey bars for her photo album.
Dora is ready. First, she needs to count how many bars are on the monkey bars. As Dora and her friends count each bar, it glows. There are 10 bars. Dora is all set to try and climb all the way across. She reaches her arms up high. Dora grabs the first bar with her left hand, then with both hands. She then grabs the second bar with both hands, repeating this sequence for the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth bars. After grabbing the ninth bar with both hands, she lets go of it with her right hand and pauses for a moment. But then, she grabs the tenth and final bar with both hands and jumps back down to solid ground!
Dora has successfully crossed the monkey bars! All her friends cheer and celebrate. Tico takes the picture. Dora is so glad she showed her confidence and conquered the monkey bars!

Trivia[]
- This episode has Dora and Boots sing "Yes, We Can!", in which they sing the first two stanzas of the Travel Song's lyrics, they don't say "where are we going" because it's followed by them stomping their feet real hard and clapping their hands real loud. The last two stanzas of it are also featured in "Travel Song Medley".
- The Travel Song was technically heard three times, once on the way to the Troll Bridge, once on the way to the Windy Hill, and once going up the Windy Hill. However, when they sing it going up the Windy Hill, they skip the places to go and just start at the last stanza where the stomp their feet real hard and clap their hands real loud. This is the first time since Bouncing Ball for the song being sung three times
- This is Dora and Boots' 6th instance (and the only Season 2 episode) going over the troll bridge and the 7th appearance for the Grumpy Old Troll.
- This episode could be Dora’s version of Journey to Jaguar Mountain.
- However, Go, Diego, Go! was not aired on Nick Jr. until 2005.
- This episode aired the same day as the Blues Clues episode "The Story Wall".
- This is the only episode where items fly out both before and after Backpack swallows the remaining items. Dora and Boots' jackets and mittens flew out of Backpack before she swallowed the green and yellow mittens, and then their hats flew out afterwards.
- This is the first episode where the Grumpy Old Troll does not tell Dora and Boots to solve his riddles, he instead gives them an instruction. In this episode, he makes them do exercises due to the "yes we can" theme of the episode.
- Mr. Troll becomes more impressed with Dora and Boots from now on, unless one counts Surprise!.
- The picture of Dora attempting the monkey bars in the photo album is seen later in the episode when she grabs on to climb across.
- Dora makes her way across the monkey bars a little faster while singing the last verses of the "We Did It" song and makes it all the way through when the song ended.
- There is a lot of instructions and challenges due to the "yes we can" nature of the episode.
- Dora says she never made it across the monkey bars; Boots is sure she can do it this time, and she succeeds in the end with the help from Boots and the viewers.
- Dora and Boots don't exchange "Where are we going?" during the travel song; instead they demonstrate talents they can do.
- Mr. Troll gives Dora and Boots physical challenges to test them if they can do what he tells them.
- Dora and Boots brave a chilly wind up Windy Hill.
- This is the last episode until "León, the Circus Lion" in which Dora lists the places after all 3 pictures pop up.
- This is the only appearance of Dora's purple jacket and Boots' red jacket used for windy weather. The mittens of the same color from the previous episodes A Present For Santa and A Letter for Swiper, as well as a later Season 4 episode The Mixed-Up Seasons, and the hats will appear in that episode.
- In addition, this is the only episode with winter clothes but no snow.
- When Dora says "You have to say Map!", the audio is taken from Wizzle Wishes.
- This is the 46th episode of the show.
- Dora and Boots sing Yes We Can! the second time, but they don't sing it after finding their second place and the Blue Cursor clicking on it.
- This is the second episode where Play Park is the final destination, first being The Happy Old Troll.
- This is Pinto's first time away from the wild west and his second appearance to date.
- This is also his last appearance for Season 2.
- Pinto will later appear in the episode "Dora's World Adventure!" at the Friendship Day party.
- The photos in the photo album are from the previous episodes of the last season (although no one was seen taking them in the episodes themselves):
- In some scenes of this episode, Dora and Boots have their Season 1 and Season 3 looks.
- This episode premiered the same day as the release of the iTunes Store.
- This episode premiered the same day as the Blue's Clues episode "The Story Wall".
- At the end of the episode, the blue cursor does not click on Dora; instead it clicks on the picture of her that Tico took.
- Although this episode premiered in 2003, it was produced in 2001 according to the end credits.
Goofs/Errors[]
- It is unknown how the pictures from Treasure Island, Little Star, and Dora Saves the Prince appeared if no one actually took the pictures onscreen.
- After looking through the photo album book, Dora put the book in her backpack, so it is unknown how the book was not one of the items in Backpack during her segment.
- It is unknown how Dora and Boots needed jackets, hats, and mittens just because of the wind. In real life, winds can only make warm temperatures slightly colder, but not colder that one would need to put winter clothes over his/her summer clothes. (North winds blow cold air)
References[]
- Dora and Boots saying "Yes, We Can!" may be a reference to Bob the Builder, in which whenever he asks "Can we fix/build it?", he and the cast yell out "Yes, We Can!". Said show aired on the Nick Jr. block from 2001-2004.
