Summary[]

Diego is an animal rescuer and a friend to all animals whenever they need help, but now he's in trouble while trying to save a baby parrot! Dora and Boots have to move fast and rescue him, because if he falls, he and the baby parrot will crash into a large pile of prickly thorns! Zoinks!

Plot[]

Dora and Boots love animals, and so does their cousin, Diego. He's an animal rescuer who rescues animals who are in trouble.

He rides his parasail down from the sky to the ground, where he spots Baby Jaguar in distress. Diego rescues him and brings him to safety. After playing with Baby Jaguar for a while, they hear a strange sound. Diego sees a rolling rock heading straight for the leaf-cutter ants. He quickly makes a ramp by tying logs together with a vine. Once the ramp is in place, the rock rolls right over the ants, saving them. That makes two creatures saved so far!

But then, he sees a third animal in trouble: a mountain goat with its foot stuck in a prickly, thorny bush. Diego pulls the bush apart and removes a thorn from the goat's foot. Now he's saved three creatures.

Suddenly, an animal calls out, "Caw-caw!" Diego can't see what creature it is, so he uses his spotting scope and discovers it's a baby parrot. The wind is about to blow its nest off the edge of a cliff on top of Rocky Mountain, and if that happens, the baby parrot could fall into the prickly thorns. Diego gets harnessed up and climbs the cliff, grabbing the nest with the baby parrot inside.

After rescuing a fourth animal, Diego suddenly gets stuck. A snag in the rope hanging from the branch prevents him from getting to safety, and he is about to fall into a pile of prickly thorns! Diego needs to be rescued!

The viewer tells Dora and Boots that Diego needs help, and fast. So, Dora and Boots ask Map for assistance to figure out how to get to him as fast as possible. Map tells them they have to go across El Rio Rápido (the fast river) and down the super big mudslide to reach Rocky Mountain and save Diego and the baby parrot!

Dora and Boots set off on their journey, getting help from a variety of animals along the way. Spider monkeys swing through the trees, and a mountain goat gives them a ride up a steep hill.

Soon, they reach the fast river. They find a boat, but animals warn them that Swiper the Fox is coming to swipe it! Dora and Boots spot Swiper and stop him by shouting, "Swiper, no swiping!" three times. Swiper snaps his fingers, says "Oh, man!" and runs away. Dora and Boots thank the animals for the warning, then put on their life jackets and helmets, as El Río Rápido is a wild river full of large rocks and whirlpools.

They need a creature to help them cross the river safely, and an angelfish appears, offering to show them the way. All they have to do is follow the angelfish. They find the angelfish on the second of three paths, which is the safest. Next, they locate it on the third of four paths, where rocks block the other routes. Finally, they find the angelfish on the middle path out of five, with whirlpools on the other four. Dora and Boots make it through the river and thank the angelfish for its help.

After crossing the river, they check Map to see where to go next. A checkmark appears on El Río Rápido, and the blue cursor clicks on the super big mudslide. They use turtles as stepping stones to get across the water and a spectacled owl directs them to go right. With more help from the animals, Dora and Boots reach the mudslide.

They need a way to get down without getting muddy, so the Leaf-Cutter Ants cut leaves from a tree, which float on top of the mud. Boots jumps onto some brown leaves, but they start to break apart. They realize they need to use the green leaves because they are stronger. Dora and Boots ride the green leaves down the muddy mudslide, stopping twice but eventually making it to solid ground.

They check Map again, and a checkmark appears on both El Río Rápido and the big mudslide. The cursor clicks on Rocky Mountain. They can't see the mountain at first, but Baby Jaguar suddenly rushes up to them and leads them through the bush to where Diego is still hanging from a yellow rope, snagged on a branch. Diego's rescue pack and field journal are on the ground below.

Dora and Boots need a way to get to the top of the mountain. Baby Jaguar pulls out the field journal, and Dora uses the touchscreen pen to choose an animal that can climb mountains. From four choices, they figure out that the mountain goat is the correct animal. They call out to the goat, and it arrives, giving them a ride on its back.

In no time, they reach the top. The yellow rope is starting to rip, so Diego needs help fast. Dora tells him she has a rope in Backpack. A flash of light reveals three blue ropes. They need the longest one, which the viewer helps them find. Dora hands the blue rope to Diego, who switches from the yellow rope to the new, stronger one and climbs to safety. Dora takes the Baby Parrot in its nest.

Dora and Boots have saved both Diego and the baby parrot! Diego finds a safe place for the baby parrot, and then they all call out "Caw-caw!" to its parents. The mommy and daddy parrots arrive and are reunited with their baby in the safe tree.

Trivia[]

  • This is first and only time Dora uses and looks inside Diego's field journal.
  • Map's dancing is recycled from La Maestra de Música and Super Babies.
  • Benny, Isa, Tico, and Daisy don't appear in this episode or help Diego.
  • Map does not zoom wipe at all in this episode.
  • Diego does not use Rescue Pack in this episode, because he is the one needed to be rescued.
  • The Travel Song is replaced by a variant; the Animal Help Travel Song.
  • This episode premiered in the UK exactly 2 years after "Baby Dino" premiered on Nickelodeon.
  • This is the second episode for El Río Rápido after "Baby Jaguar's Roar".
    • If one goes by production order, it's the other way around, making this the first.
    • Coincidentally, both of these episodes (this and the aforementioned one) were put together on the Animal Adventures VHS and DVD, and they both feature the same location.
      • However, in this episode, it was the first location, whereas it was the second location in the episode mentioned above.
  • When Diego raises the nest with Baby Parrot and all the animals cheer for him, it's the perfect reference of Disney's The Lion King franchise where Rafiki raises baby Simba in the opening of "The Circle of Life", the reprise song of "The Circle of Life" in the end where Rafiki raises the new cub Kiara and the opening of Simba's Pride that has the new song "He Lives in You".
  • This is the first episode to premiere on Nickelodeon's new Play Date block.
  • This is the last episode of Season 4 (and the last classic episode with the original cast) that premiered on the Nick Jr. Channel.
  • Because of the remastered print of Swiper the Explorer plastering the 1999-2005 Nick Jr. Productions logo with the 2009 Nickelodeon Productions logo (because it premiered in 2010), in airing order, this is the final time the show uses the 1999-2005 Nick Jr. Productions logo due to this being a pushed-back episode.
    • However, the home media and Noggin Prime video versions of said episode use the 1999-2005 Nick Jr. Productions logo.
  • If one looks closely, when Swiper is about to snap his fingers, he actually makes the starting position of the finger snap correctly (the middle finger and thumb pressed together), as opposed to other episodes where he does it wrong (using the index finger instead).
  • In airing order, this is the last episode to find Baby Red Fish.
  • When Swiper says, "Oh, man!", he looks at the viewer.
  • Although this was produced in Season 4, it aired during Season 5, in mid-April 2009, making it the only Season 4 episode that premiered in that year (2009).
  • Going by season/episode order and not TV airing order, this would be the 100th and spectacular episode of the show.
  • This episode premiered on Nick Jr the same day that Bengal Tiger Makes a Wish premiered on Nickelodeon.
  • The owl sound from the British preschool show Peppa Pig is heard and reused in this episode.
  • This episode premiered in Canada the same day as The Shy Rainbow's premiere in the United States.
  • Although it premiered in 2005 on (Nick Jr. UK), 2006 on DVD and VHS, 2008 on (Nickelodeon Canada), 2009 on Nickelodeon and 2012 on Nick Jr., it was made in 2003 according to the credits.
  • When Swiper says, "Oh, man!" the audio is taken from The Legend of the Big Red Chicken.
  • This is the first and only episode where Dora continues to frown when she tells the viewers to say Map due to an emergency (only the first time).
    • However, unlike Dora and Diego to the Rescue!, Map still smiles for most of his segment, only frowning briefly when taking notice of both Diego and the baby bird hanging off the mountain over the prickers and thorns.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • iTunes lists this episode as "Save Diego". The exclamation mark is left out.
  • Dee Bradley Baker is solely credited for voicing Baby Jaguar. However, he is mainly voiced by Thomas Sharkey, with Baker providing only additional vocal effects.
  • It is unknown how Baby Jaguar got stuck on the mudslide.
  • When Dora, Boots, Baby Jaguar, and the goat pick up Diego, they used the blue rope and Diego had his helmet on. However, when Diego was picked up, his helmet and the blue rope disappear and it is unknown what happened to them.
