Rainbow Rock first appeared in the episode Best Friends where Dora and Boots meet up to have a picnic on Best Friends' Day. It also appeared in The Shy Rainbow, where Dora and Boots watch rainbows as well as Act 1 of the Dora and Friends episode Dora's Rainforest Reunion where Dora and Boots had another Best Friends' Day picnic.

- The rainbow did not have a red, indigo, or purple stripe, three colors that rainbows also have in real life.
- Dora picks up speed by running to Rainbow Rock and then Map peeks out of Backpack telling her that Boots has to watch out for the crabs (which is on Boots' route to Rainbow Rock).
- Boots once confused Rainbow Rock for "Rainbow Sock" in Best Friends.
