All those that seek Parapata... shall surely perish.

Alejandro Gutierrez

Parapata is the eponymous "City of Gold" in Dora and the Lost City of Gold. It's an ancient, legendary Inca site located in the jungles of Peru. The place is defended by traps and puzzles and still has living residents. It's ruled by Princess Kawillaka and protected by her guards.

The city is considered mythological by most, it's so difficult to find. Cole and Elena Márquez, Dora's parents, spend years searching for Parapata. Its legendary riches are also why the city is so famous and a group of mercenaries hunt down Cole and Elena for their own greed.

However, it is also nearly absurdly difficult to enter the city and there's even a well known saying about those who look for it: "All those that seek Parapata... shall surely perish." Cole and Elena send Dora to her cousin Diego and extended family in Los Angeles for her own safety.
