Characters[]

Summary[]

At the Animal Rescue Center, Dora and Boots meet her cousin Diego and hear a call for help. Baby Jaguar is stuck at the waterfall, and they need you to help them run, swing, and jump to the rescue! Check Diego's Field Journal, zip along on a zip-chord, call to wild animals...all while jumping, reaching, and grabbing for stars! Dora needs your help to catch estrellas for her Star Pocket! There's a lot to do in this action-packed animal adventure!

Plot[]

Dora and Boots visit the animal rescue center, a place where people rescue animals that get hurt, lost, or sick and help them feel all better. Suddenly, a distressed growling sound was heard. Dora saw that a Baby Bear is about to fall out of the tree. Baby Bear got scared. But then, an animal rescuer came and swings on a vine. The branch breaks which made Dora and Boots gasp. But then, the animal rescuer catches Baby Bear and Dora and Boots cheered. Boots wanted to know who saved Baby Bear. Dora explained that it was her cousin Diego; who helps his parents (who are also Dora's aunt and uncle) run the animal rescue center. Diego can rescue animals, and he can also mimic the animal's sound as a translation for what the animals say. Boots thought that was cool and he wanted to meet Diego. The viewer agreed when Dora asks if he/she/they want(s) to meet him. After that, she introduced Diego to her best friend Boots, who wondered if Baby Bear was okay. Diego said that Baby Bear was still scared and upset. He was trying to calm down Baby Bear by growling softly. Dora, Boots, and Diego calmed down Baby Bear by saying"rarr, rarr, rarr". In no time, Baby Bear smiled, and Diego puts him down. Boots pats Baby Bear's head. Then, he walks away growling happily.

All of a sudden, Dora, Boots, and Diego heard a distressed "mreow-mreow" sound from afar. It was a special kind of cat called a jaguar. Diego realized that it sounded like a baby jaguar. Diego looks at a special animal computer called a Field Journal, which has lots of information about different animals and what they look like, what they eat, where they live, and what they do. When Diego found the baby jaguar using a touch screen pen, he noticed that the baby jaguar was standing on a rock on the edge of a waterfall. Dora, and Boots want to help Diego, he agrees and they realize they have to get to the waterfall to help Baby Jaguar fast. But they did not know where the waterfall is. They ask Map and before he can tell them how to get to the waterfall, he asks the viewer if they can spot the baby jaguar. Map saw him at the waterfall. Map said that Dora, Boots, and Diego have to go through the rainforest and past the big cave to get to the waterfall and save Baby Jaguar. Map also mentions that they can catch stars along the way.

Dora, Boots, and Diego are ready to go to the waterfall to save the baby jaguar. They started making their way to the rainforest and for fun, they moved like monkeys by swinging on the vines. They also moved like birds by flapping their arms and they moved like tapirs by stomping their feet. After moving like animals, Dora, Boots, and Diego entered the rainforest. Along the way, there was a zip cord. But they had to find a way to get up to the zip cord. Wind blows some really tall grass to the side. A red ladder appears but the ladder was missing some rungs. Dora, Boots, and Diego counted how many rungs were missing. They counted in Spanish and found out there were 6 missing rungs. The blue cursor finds 6 rungs and they get put into place. Boots climbed up the ladder first followed by Dora and Diego climbed up the ladder last. When they're all at the top, Baby Jaguar meows for help. Diego calls back telling that they were coming. Dora, Boots, and Diego each grabbed a zip line handle and zipped through the rainforest.

As they were zipping through the rainforest, a big monkey was sitting on the cord. More specifically, it was a howler monkey. Diego called out to it to warn him. He said "hoo-hoo". The howler monkey grabs a vine and swings out of the way. Then Boots noticed that the cord was breaking. Diego thought that if they asked for a snake, it would hold the cord in place. Dora, Boots, and Diego called out to a snake by going "hiss hiss". The snake pokes its head out and they called out to it again. The snake saw that the cord was breaking and held it in place. They zip pass the snake's body. Boots thanked him. After that, stars were heard. Dora, Boots and Diego make it to the other side. Dora, Boots, and Diego started catching stars. There was an explorer star who was grey, had red stripes and had rocket jets on the bottom. It was named Rocket Star. Dora, Boots, and Diego caught all the stars and put them in the star pocket. Then, Dora and Diego slid down the pole while Boots spins round and round while sliding down the pole and lands on Dora's head.

After going through the rainforest, Dora, Boots, and Diego had to go to the Big Cave. Dora, Boots, and Diego got going and along the way, they moved like the same animals in the same way. They swung on the vines like monkeys, flapped their arms like birds and stamped their feet like tapirs. Boots hops onto Diego and rides on him for a little while. Dora, Boots and Diego make it to the big cave. Boots wanted to know if there were any bears in the cave. Suddenly, there was a white bear which appeared to be a Polar Bear. While hiding behind the bushes, Diego thought that there was something strange going on. He wanted to make sure that it was really a polar bear or not. Dora, Boots, and Diego figured out by the Field Journal that it was not a real polar bear, because real polar bears only live in cold places, and it was hot where they are right now. An orange tail was seen and they realize that it was really Swiper the Fox dressed as a polar bear. Boots thought he would try to swipe Diego's field journal. Diego has never stopped Swiper and he never met him before so Dora and Boots taught him how. They said "Swiper, no swiping" 3 times; Diego only said it the last 2 times (the 2nd and 3rd time) for them. Swiper snaps his fingers, goes "Oh, man!", and runs away.

After passing the big cave, Dora, Boots, and Diego were getting very close to saving Baby Jaguar. They just had to find the waterfall. Boots could not see it because it was too far away. Diego thought they can find the waterfall using the spotting scope (which acts like a little telescope). Sure enough, they found the waterfall, and they also saw Baby Jaguar. Dora, Boots, and Diego had to get to the waterfall fast. They had water skis and put on lifejackets for safety. Diego suggested that they call a dolphin. Dora, Boots, and Diego called out to one by saying "click-click". Dora, Boots, and Diego called out again by going "click-click, click-click". An amazon river dolphin then comes up to Dora, Boots, and Diego. Then, Diego talks to the dolphin and asks if they will pull them across the river to the waterfall. The amazon river dolphin would be glad to but they need a rope. Dora had some rope in Backpack.

After finding the rope, it gets stuck in Backpack's background, but with the viewer's help, they pulled the rope free. Dora catches the rope and throws it to the amazon river dolphin. Dora, Boots, and Diego had to hang on to the rope because the river dolphin is going to swim super fast across the river. And soon, they were water skiing. Diego notices that there is going to be some big waves, which the amazon river dolphin jumps over the waves. Dora, Boots, and Diego bounced on and over the waves. After bouncing on the waves, they still had to go faster.

Suddenly, Rocket Star shoots out of the star pocket and gives them a boost of speed. After going super fast on the river, Dora, Boots, and Diego got to the waterfall, and Baby Jaguar meows fearfully again. A wave pushes Baby Jaguar over and he hangs on to the rock by his paws. Diego had an idea. He said he knows some big birds that can help them which are the giant condors. Diego thought that giant condors can fly all the way up to Baby Jaguar. Dora, Boots, and Diego called out to the giant condors by saying "errr-errr". Dora and Boots rode together on one giant condor while Diego rides solo on another giant condor. And by working together, the giant condors flew up high. Baby Jaguar loses his grip on the rock and started to fall, but they all managed to catch him. Everyone lands on the ground and the condors flew away. Baby Jaguar meows to tell that he wants his mommy. Dora, Boots, and Diego called out by saying "mreow mreow" to call Baby Jaguar's family. Diego lets the baby jaguar go reunite with his family.

Trivia[]

  • Dora's cousin, Diego, makes his debut in this episode and got to meet her friend, Boots.
  • Diego learned how to stop Swiper.
    • As Dora and Boots say "Swiper, no swiping!", Diego joins in the second and third time they repeat.
    • Swiper does not make whisking sounds in this episode. Instead, he was in disguise.
  • This is the first appearance of Diego and Baby Jaguar, who would later get a spin-off series of their own in September 2005 titled Go, Diego, Go!.
  • For Diego's first few appearances, he is voiced by brothers Andres and Felipe Dieppa. However, Felipe Dieppa occasionally did the voice himself.
  • This was the first episode to air during the Dora marathon on September 6, 2005 to promote the series premiere of Go, Diego, Go!. The last one that aired at 1:30pm et. was the premiere of Dora and Diego to the Rescue!.
  • Benny, Isa, Señor Tucán, and Tico don't appear in this episode or meet Diego.
  • Diego tells the viewer what his first favorite part was.
  • Kideo made a personalized version of this episode entitled, "Dora, Diego, and me!".
    • Unlike the personalized version of Whose Birthday is It?, the kid would not replace anyone (It may sound like Boots is being replaced, because it's called Dora, Diego, and Me), he/she is just a guest. However Dora still says the child's name after asking a certain question.
  • Rescue Pack is not anthromorphic. He is simply just an orange backpack.
  • Dora and Boots don't sing the Travel Song in this episode (not even for the first time with Diego). They had no time to sing it because Baby Jaguar needs help and they're in a hurry trying to save him. Diego also wanted to teach Dora and Boots how to move like other animals, so they sing Move Like The Animals Do instead.
  • The scene where Dora, Boots, and Diego are pulled past the screen by the dolphin is used in the Season 3-6 intro.
  • The scene where Dora, Boots, and Diego are running were used in a 2007 Nick Jr promo.
  • The scene where Boots asks, "Who is that?!" is used in the Wonder Pets! DVD trailer for "Save the Wonder Pets!".
    • Coincidentally, Go, Diego, Go! and Wonder Pets! both have to do with rescuing animals.
      • And the two shows both appeared in that promo back to back.
  • This is the second episode after Star Catcher in which Dora and Boots shout "Estrellas!" before the stars come out of the star pocket for the final star count.
  • This is the second episode where Dora counts the stars, she and Boots caught in Spanish instead of English (first being Star Catcher). Although, for international languages like Greek, Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish, they're counting the stars in English.
  • This is the first episode where the correct object (rope) somehow got stuck during Backpack's segment. It will happen again in To the South Pole.
    • Coincidentally, both of these episodes (this and the aforementioned episode) were put together on the Meet Diego! VHS and DVD, and the same problem occurred in the Backpack segment.
  • When Dora, Boots, and Diego look for the rungs for the ladder and count them the second time, the same background appears from Señor Tucán's character find segment.
  • The clip of Dora, Boots, and Diego swinging from tree to tree will later be seen in the Season 4 episode "Best Friends".
  • This is the only time Diego wears a life jacket, as in future instances, he can turn his vest into a life jacket.
  • In the We Did It! song of this episode, there are some minor changes in the lyrics:
    • Instead of Dora and Boots yelling "Yay!", Diego yelled "We Did It!". This also happens in Dora's Pirate Adventure.
    • Instead of the second time Dora and Boots sang "We did it!", they said "Baby Jaguar!" referring to how they save him from falling in the waterfall.
  • In one scene where Dora says "Look!", the audio is taken from Whose Birthday is It?.
  • The stars caught in this episode (not counting Rocket Star) correspond to the colors worn by Dora and her party: Red for Boots' boots, dark blue for Diego's shirt, purple for Backpack, orange for Dora's shorts and Rescue Pack, and yellow for Boots' tummy.
    • In addition, the number of stars caught was six, which could correspond to the six missing ladder rungs when in the rainforest.
  • When Swiper says, "Oh, Man!" the audio is taken from The Legend of the Big Red Chicken.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • When Dora told the viewer to say "Backpack!", she's not wearing the star pocket, she's wearing her original pockets. And during her song, one can see that she is seen wearing both her normal and original pockets again from Season 1-2.
  • In real life, one can't ride on a giant condor (although here it does not apply due to cartoon logic).
  • When Dora, Boots, and Diego ziplined through the rainforest, the zipline was missing harness for an unknown reason.
  • When Dora is asking the viewer to help stop Swiper, Diego's eye color is the same as Dora's.
  • When Dora, Boots and Diego put their life jackets on, Backpack is under Dora's life jacket, but when asking the viewer to check for a rope, Backpack is superimposed on top of the life jacket. Then when jumping the waves and when Rocket Star appears, Backpack is on top of the life jacket.
  • Dora, Boots, and Diego all say that polar bears don't live in really hot places. In real life, some polar bears that are in captivity live in zoos, especially those in really hot places such as Arizona, Texas, and California. Their enclosures could have water that is as cold as the water in their respective habitats.
  • Although it premiered in 2003, it was actually made in 2002 according to the credits.
