Summary

Dora and Boots find a lost little Baby Blue Bird who speaks Spanish. She's wet and cold, and misses her mommy. Dora and Boots need your help to bring Baby Blue Bird back to her mommy in the Little Blue Tree.

Plot

Dora and Boots are playing hide and seek when they hear a sound. They find a baby bluebird hiding in a bush. She is cold and wet. Dora gets a towel out of her Backpack and wraps Baby Blue Bird in it. Baby Blue Bird wants to be back home with her mama. Dora tries asking Baby Blue Bird in English where she lives, and she says, "¿Qué?" Dora realized that Baby Blue Bird speaks Spanish. Dora asks again in Spanish. Baby Blue Bird responds "árbol". Dora translates Spanish words into English. Baby Blue Bird said "árbol" for "tree". She said "pequeño" meaning that the tree she lives in is little. Baby Blue Bird then says "Azul" for the color "blue". Dora and Boots study the descriptive words given by Baby Blue Bird and realize that she lives in the little blue tree. Dora and Boots did not know how to get there. So, they ask Map. He explains to them that they have to go past the bananas, then through the cornfield and they will have Baby Blue Bird home soon at the little blue tree.

On the way, Boots gets hungry, and so does Baby Blue Bird. They get to the banana tree. Boots decided that he can climb up and get some bananas from a banana tree. Boots had to figure out how many bananas to get. They needed one for Baby Blue Bird, one for Dora, and one for Boots. They counted and needed 3 bananas. Boots climbs up the banana tree and then picks 3 bananas individually. Boots brings the 3 bananas down and hands one each to Dora and Baby Blue Bird. Dora holds a banana down low so Baby Blue Bird can eat it. They all thought their banana snack was delicious. Then, they hear a rustling sound, and realize it must be Swiper the fox. Swiper tries to swipe the bananas. Dora and Boots stop Swiper but as they do that, Baby Blue Bird runs away. Swiper snaps his finger, goes "Oh, man!", and he runs away. After that, Dora and Boots finish eating their bananas and throw the peels in a trash bin. Suddenly, they notice that Baby Blue Bird is gone, and Dora thinks that Swiper must've scared her. Dora calls out by saying "Baby bird, Pajarito". Dora asks the viewer where Baby Blue Bird went. The viewer tells Dora that Baby Blue Bird ran away to the right. Boots calls out in English while Dora calls out in Spanish. Dora thought this was awful. They have to find Baby Blue Bird. Dora and Boots stop and thought. They remembered that when they first found Baby Blue Bird, she went "peep-peep-peep". Dora thought that if they listen and are very quiet, they will hear her go peep-peep-peep again. Dora and Boots had to play a listening game. They heard a buzz sound, a cricket-cricket sound, a ribbit-ribbit sound, and then a peep-peep-peep sound. Boots thought Baby Blue Bird was in the leaves, but he saw a bee there, not Baby Blue Bird. The viewer tells Dora and Boots that Baby Blue Bird was in the flowers. As Dora and Boots peeked into the flowers, they notice Baby Blue Bird is crying. Dora knew that the fox (Swiper) must have really scared her. Boots had an idea on how to cheer up Baby Blue Bird. Boots jumped up and down and tickled his sides. He called it his monkey dance. When Baby Blue Bird sees it, she stops crying and starts laughing. Baby Blue Bird was cheered up and she, Boots, and Dora started continuing on their way. Now, they go to the cornfield.

As they arrive, Boots tells Dora that a scarecrow was near. However, it was revealed that the scarecrow was alive. Mr. Scarecrow went "BOO!" to Baby Blue Bird, which made her break in to tears again. Dora angrily tells Mr. Scarecrow that's not nice, but he replies that he's a scarecrow so it is his job to scare birds. Soon afterwards however, he bursts into tears as well. Dora tells Mr. Scarecrow not to cry and calm himself down. They need to think of a way to cheer up Baby Blue Bird. Luckily, Boots knows the trick. He does his monkey dance again. Dora thought that was a good idea because Boots' monkey dance cheered up Baby Blue Bird before. Dora thought that if she and the viewer do Boots' monkey dance, they will cheer up Baby Blue Bird.

Dora tickles her sides and gets the viewer to do the same. Now, Dora jumps up and down and the viewer did the same. Together Dora and the viewer tickled their sides and jumped up and down. Baby Blue Bird was happy again. Mr. Scarecrow apologized to her for scaring her and starts being nicer. Mr. Scarecrow guessed that Dora, Boots, and Baby Blue Bird were going to go through the cornfield. They told him he guessed right. However, the corn was tall and they did not want to get lost. Mr. Scarecrow says they should follow the blue stones so they won't get lost. However, he also warns them that they should stay away from the path with the red stones because it has the mean red ants. Dora, Boots, and Baby Blue Bird take his advice to follow the path with the blue stones to find their way through the cornfield. Baby Blue Bird runs off alone. Boots yells "Wait!", while Dora yells out "¡Esperate!". Baby Blue Bird hops onto a couple of blue stones. Suddenly, the mean red ants come and stop nearby on a path of red stones. Boots was worried about what would happen if Baby Blue Bird runs into the mean red ants. Dora says that they have to tell Baby Blue Bird to walk on the path with the blue stones. Since she speaks Spanish, they have to tell her "Azul". The viewer helps Baby Blue Bird by saying "Azul". The viewer had to speak loud enough for Baby Blue Bird to respond. She says "Azul" as she hops onto the blue stones. More red ants came on another red path. The viewer kept telling Baby Blue Bird "Azul".

Soon enough, Baby Blue Bird, along with Dora and Boots, made it through the corn. They were very proud of Baby Blue Bird for getting through. All of a sudden, Baby Blue Bird runs off again because she found a flower to give to her mommy. Suddenly, Swiper was nearby. Baby Blue Bird saw Swiper and started running. Swiper chased after Baby Blue Bird. Swiper was planning on swiping the flower. Dora and Boots told him "Swiper, no swiping!" three times. Baby Blue Bird stops running, turns around, faces her fear of Swiper, and says bravely, "Swiper, no swiping!" three times. Like earlier, Swiper snaps his finger, goes "Oh, man!", and he runs away. Dora and Boots cheered for Baby Blue Bird for being so brave. So far, Dora and Boots went past the Banana tree and through the cornfield. They were getting close to taking Baby Blue Bird home. They just have to go to the little blue tree. They get there right away. In no time, Baby Blue Bird was brought home to her family. Baby Blue Bird gives her mommy the flower as a gift. Mommy Blue Bird thanks Dora, Boots, and the viewer for bringing Baby Blue Bird home.

Trivia

Both this episode and the previous episode aired back-to-back as the series premiere.
- However, cable listings list this episode as the series premiere when in reality, the previous episode is the actual series premiere as it has a majority of elements used to introduce the series.
The voices of Benny, Isa, and Tico appeared in the end credits, but Benny, Isa, and Tico don't appear in this episode. However, Tico did appear in the credits.
This is the 2^nd episode to use the sound of the places without music during the Map segment. The 1st was the previous episode.
- This is also the second episode in a row to do so.
The frog and cricket look just like the frog and grasshopper from the Fiesta Trio.
- Speaking of the Fiesta Trio, they do not play their fanfare tune after Dora and Boots passed the bananas and the cornfield. However, they do appear during We Did It!.
There are a lot of firsts in this episode:
- This is the first appearance of Baby Blue Bird.
- This is the first episode where Dora and Boots successfully stopped Swiper every time.
  - Not only that, this is the first time Dora and Boots successfully stopped Swiper twice.
- Even though Baby Blue Bird got scared of Swiper once, she ended up facing her fear and bravely stopped him all by herself and was the first Spanish character to speak English and stop Swiper all alone. This will be used later when Tico can speak English and stop Swiper after Dora and Boots in Beaches.
- This is the first episode where Dora says "Come on, say it with us!" to begin the Travel Song.
  - However, she simply says, "Say it with us!" when heading to the bananas; When heading to the cornfield, Dora said "come on" prior to such.
- This is the first episode where Dora and Boots say out the places they need to go slowly, rather than at warp speed. It was put to permanent use on later episodes.
- The first time a character joins Dora and Boots during the Travel Song.
- This episode features the voice of Kari Wahlgren.
- This is the first episode (in current airings) to premiere on a Tuesday.
- This is the first episode Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song twice.
- This is the first episode to find Tico.
- This is the first time Boots shouts "WHOO!" at the end of We Did It! (just before the blue cursor clicks on Dora).
Similar to the previous episode The Legend of the Big Red Chicken, when Baby Blue Bird responded "¿Que?" after Dora asked where does she live in English. Dora didn't say that "¿Que?" translates to "what" in Spanish to Boots to avoid rudeness. Instead, Dora tells the viewer that Baby Blue Bird only speaks Spanish and asks again in Spanish.
This is the second episode in which a character shouts, "Lo hicimos!" at the end of We Did It! (just before "WHOO!"), after the previous episode.
This is the last episode where the theme music plays before the closing credits start.
This is the final of only two appearances of Dora's "Season 1, Version 1" look.
This is the 2^nd episode of the show.
This version of Travel Song from the episode was released in Dance And Sing! The Best Of Nick Jr.
The theme song made slight changes in this episode. The lines "Boots and supercool exploradora" and "¡Vamanos!" have new vocals which will be used for the rest of Season 1 and for Season 2. The original theme song will be retired as a whole in the episode León, the Circus Lion (and/or Dora Had a Little Lamb on the Rhymes and Riddles video) and will be replaced with a new one in the episode Star Catcher.
Even though Tico appeared at the end of the show's credits, he will later appear on the next episode.
In this episode, Dora gets mad, unlike in the rest of the series but she does not make an angry look. It all happens when she accidentally tells off Scarecrow for being rude to Baby Blue Bird by yelling at him.
There is also an episode from fellow Nicktoons SpongeBob SquarePants with the exact same name.
When Dora uses the picture pop-up sequence the third time, Boots doesn't ask her "where do we go next" before she uses them, they don't pop up in front of her and she doesn't list the places in order one at a time, she simply walks over to them as they're already in front of the screen and tells the viewer what places they went to so far.
When Dora checks Map, she doesn't ask "can you check the map and find the way to the Little Blue Tree", she instead asks "can you check the map and tell me what it says".
- This will happen again in Choo-Choo!.
2 years after this episode aired, it was adapted into a My First LeapPad book made by LeapFrog, in the Discovery line, under the title, "To the Rescue".
The first scene with Dora is later used in the "Dance Along Musical Adventure" DVD.
There were 2 clips from this episode, that were used in the Nick Jr. Kids Bumpers (Late 2000 and 2002-2004 versions).
- The clip was Dora asking us if they want to play Hide and Seek with her, was used in the opening.
- The clip of Dora tickling Boots (after he was found) was used in the closing.

Goofs/Errors

Just like in the previous episode, the first three wooden block notes are left out in the beginning of the theme song.
During Map's segment, unlike other episodes, the upper right corner of the map is not folded.
When Dora finished saying, "We're doing the monkey dance!", she was lip-syncing gibberish, which means she didn't have any audio in her voice.
Captions misspelled "¡Mi bebé!" as "Mi Bebe!". The upside down exclamation mark and the accent on the second E in bebé are both left out.
During the Travel Song, when Dora and Boots were saying where they were going and spin around, their mouths do not match what they are saying, because they were saying something different. At those moments, it seems like their lips read "To bring the bird back home!". For some reason, this was dubbed over at the last minute with them saying "To the Little Blue Tree!" instead.
At the end of We Did It! when Boots says "Yay" and "Whoo", he has Dora's voice.
- This error will persist throughout the rest of Seasons 1-4.
