Characters[]

Summary[]

Dora and her friends are really good at hiding! To win Señor Tucán's big trophy, Dora will need the viewer's help finding her friends in the Spooky Cave, the Squirrel Trees, and the Rainforest! Ready or not, let's go find them!

Plot[]

Dora, Boots, and their friends play a game of hide-and-go-seek outside. Señor Tucán said that if Dora and her friends are all found, they'll win the big trophy. So, now they were ready to play hide-and-go-seek. First they counted everyone who is playing. After that, they now had to figure out who wanted to be "it". Dora offered the viewer at home to be "it" and the viewer accepts her request. Now, Dora and her friends went off to hide and then Dora counts to 5 with the viewer. The viewer starts seeking. Dora hints to the viewer that she's hiding behind a bush that is the same color as her pink shirt. The viewer finds Dora by the pink flowers. Now it was time to find Boots. Dora says that he's hiding behind a tree that is the same color as his Boots. The viewer finds him in the red fruit tree. So far, the viewer found Dora and Boots. Map starts hopping on the path. The viewer finds Map in the white flowers. So far, the viewer found 3 friends, but Backpack, Benny, Isa, Tico, and Señor Tucán were still hiding. Luckily, Map knows where they can look for them. He says to search in the spooky cave, the squirrel trees, and then rainforest to find Señor Tucán. As they keep looking Backpack peeks out from a bush and hides somewhere else. Backpack was hiding in a pile of leaves that is the same color as she is. A voice in the red leaves went "Butterfly, Butterfly", a voice in the purple leaves went "Backpack, Backpack", a voice in the yellow leaves went "Baa, Baa", and a voice in the green leaves went "Bugga, Bugga". The viewer finds Backpack in the purple leaves. The other hiders came out of their hiding spots. There was a butterfly, a sheep, and a bugga-bugga bug (perhaps the character is Mami Bugga Bugga). After finding 4 friends, Dora & Boots went searching for their other friends. Benny calls out from the spooky cave. It was dark in the cave. So, they get out a flashlight from Backpack. After that, they heard Swiper. Swiper is really good at hiding. Dora & Boots saw Swiper under some green leaves and then they stop him from swiping the flashlight. Dora, Boots, and the viewer went searching for Benny. Dora saw somebody behind the big rock and asks the viewer who was that hiding behind the big rock and it was Benny the bull. Benny came out of hiding and then they heard a growling sound. Benny thought he didn't pick a good hiding spot. Dora, Boots, and Benny found another big rock. Dora wondered who could be behind that rock and it was a purple bear. Dora thought they must have woken him up. Benny calls out, "Let's get out of here!" and Benny, Dora, and Boots did so. Suddenly, the bear went back to sleep. Dora, Boots, and Benny went ahead to keep searching. The viewer finds Isa the iguana in the tall grass. Now, the viewer found Dora, Boots, Map, Backpack, Benny, and Isa. Tico and Señor Tucán were still hiding. They reached the squirrel trees, and heard Tico. There were lots of different squirrels doing different things. The soon find Tico who is purple and wears a rainbow striped vest. So far, the viewer has found everybody except Señor Tucán, who happens to be in the rainforest. Suddenly, there were giant leaves and Dora had an idea. She decides to pull the leaves apart. Once all the giant leaves were pulled apart, they entered the rainforest. Señor Tucán said "vegan a buscarme" which was "come and find me" in Spanish. Dora and her friends had to figure out what they can ride on to find Señor Tucán. They saw a tram car. They had to climb the ladder to get into the tram car. Dora and her friends took turns climbing the ladder. Tico went first, Isa went second, Benny went third, Boots went fourth, and Dora went last. Everybody got in the tram car and went riding through the rainforest. They heard lots of animal sounds in the rainforest. They heard and found howler monkey, a jaguar, and even a sloth who was asleep and sure enough, Señor Tucán was found. The viewer found all eight friends and won the big trophy.

Trivia[]

  • At the end of the episode, Dora asks "What was your favorite part?" and does not say "We couldn't have done it without you."
  • Señor Tucán actually said "Hide and Go seek" in English, probably because he doesn’t know how to say it in Spanish.
    • It's possible, however, that he's saying a title in English. In real life, if a title originates in English, it's usually given in English no matter the language.
    • If he only truly speaks Spanish, he would have said "Al escondite" instead.
  • Just like in Click!, the picture pop-up sequence went like this: Dora would ask how do they get to their goal, then the first square appears and Dora says the first location, the second square appears and Dora says the second location and then the third square appears and Dora says the third location. However, she still reviews what they had to do and says "So next comes...?" during the second and third time using the picture pop-up sequence.
    • Both this episode and Click! (in production order, this would be the first episode to do this) serve as a transition to the new method where Dora says each place as it pops up instead of reviewing them after they all pop up, which will begin in Egg Hunt.
  • In the Fisher-Price InteracTV version of this episode, the following scenes were cut:
    • The finding scenes from the actual episode
    • Map's entire segment
    • All three picture pop up sequences
    • The first half of the Travel Song (similar to the Leapster game Dora the Explorer: Wildlife Rescue)
    • The scene where Dora, Boots, and Benny see the bear inside the Spooky Cave
    • The second friend counting sequence (where they realized Señor Tucán was still hiding)
  • Mami Bugga Bugga Bug makes a cameo appearance when looking for Backpack.
    • This marks the second time she was involved in a hide-and-seek game after her namesake episode, Bugga Bugga and the next episode To The Treehouse.
  • A majority of the characters hide themselves through means of camouflage.
  • Instead of Map popping out of Backpack (because she was hiding), he looks directly at the viewer until he/she/they say(s) his name and he/she/they tell him to do his thing.
  • Dora and Boots only sing the Travel Song once.
    • The other 2 times, they're too busy looking for their friends so they wouldn't have had time to sing it again anyway, and even if they did sing it, then they would probably keep their friends waiting too long where they're hiding so they had to just concentrate moving on from the Travel Song so they save more time looking for everyone.
  • This is the second episode where Map sings the Travel Song, first being Super Map!.
  • After Dora and Boots sing We Did It!, the Blue Cursor doesn't click on Dora, it instead clicks on the tram car.
  • The tram car is also known as the gondola (not to be confused of the Italian boat one, because it also says gondola).
  • When Dora and Boots are singing the Travel Song, the Fiesta Trio don't jump and yell the last place out after saying "where are we going", instead Map says it.
  • This is the first instance where Dora was seen without Backpack during the Picture Pop-Up Sequence, but only the first and third time.
  • This is the first time a correct guess is immediately made during a "listen to the sounds" scenario; usually Boots would make an incorrect guess, then the viewer (and the blue cursor) gives the correct answer.
  • This is another instance where Tico speaks English.
  • Swiper is the only one not playing hide and seek with everyone. However, Boots says he's a good hider and he's technically hiding in the bush and is still on to Dora and Boots wanting to swipe their flashlight.
    • Also, Boots didn't say "That sneaky fox is always trying to swipe our stuff!" or "That sneaky fox will/He'll try to swipe the [object he is planning to swipe]!" However, he doesn't say those phrases in every episode. He instead says "He's really good at hiding.".
  • The characters were found in this order: Dora, Boots, Map, Backpack, Benny, Isa, Tico, and Señor Tucán.
  • This episode aired on Cinco de Mayo/Battle of Puebla in 2003.
    • And also, this aired the same day as the Blues Clues episode "The Alphabet Train".
  • This is the 47th episode of the show.
  • This is the first episode that has jaguars. This will foreshadow that one female adult jaguar has the birth of a jaguar cub for its debut and the new season.
  • When Swiper says, "Oh, Man!" the audio is taken from The Legend of the Big Red Chicken.
  • Although this episode premiered in 2003, it was produced in 2001 according to the end credits.
  • This episode premiered on Noggin on the same day as the first Nickelodeon Worldwide Day of Play.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • In some descriptions of this episode, it says instead of the trophy being the prize, Señor Tucán will introduce everyone to his new baby toucans, but said baby toucans did not appear in that episode.
    • For example: iTunes has an episode description for this episode that has to do with this.
    • It's possible this was the original plot.
  • iTunes lists this episode as "Hide & Go Seek". The word "and" is replaced with an ampersand.
