Summary[]

Dora and her friends are having a Mother's Day Party! But before the party, Dora needs to gather bananas, nuts, and chocolate for the cake. Help Dora find the cake ingredients, help Boots, Benny, Tico, and Isa prepare their Mother's Day gifts, and help watch out for Swiper!

Plot[]

Today is Mother's Day, and Dora gets ready by decorating her house. She hangs some decorations using a chair for easy reaching. After that, she jumps into her mami's arms. Dora's mami puts Dora back down on the floor and explained that she was getting ready for a big Mother's Day party. There was going to be cookies, decorations, and presents. Dora told her mom that she was making her a very special surprise treat for Mother's Day. It was in the kitchen and Dora tells her mom that she's not allowed to come in there until it was ready. Dora's mami kept her promise to not go into the kitchen. Dora's papi was making his wife a special cake for Mother's Day. However, Papi needed to see Dora immediately. Dora becomes concerned realizing something must be wrong with the cake. Dora enters the kitchen to find out what the problem is. He explained that they were missing 3 special ingredients for Mami's cake. Dora goes "Oh no!". And without the 3 special ingredients, they couldn't make the cake for Dora's mami for Mother's Day. Dora told her father not to worry and said that she'll get the special ingredients no matter what. Dora's father shows his daughter Dora the 3 special ingredients they needed to make Mami's cake. They needed bananas, nuts and chocolate. Dora and her father counted the bananas, nuts and chocolate. They counted 10 bananas, 6 nuts, and there was only 1 big piece of chocolate. Papi uses a pencil to write a 10 beside the number of bananas, a 6 beside the number of nuts, and a 1 beside the piece of chocolate on the piece of paper. Now, Papi started making the cake while Dora headed out to grab the bananas, nuts, and chocolate. She couldn't wait to give Mami the cake. She had to hurry. Dora leaves her house and told the viewer they had to find bananas, nuts and chocolate. She checks Map for help. Map was so excited to hear that Dora was going to make Mami a cake and thought it was going to be yummy. Map said that Dora can find the bananas in the banana grove, the nuts in the nutty forest, and one big piece of chocolate at the chocolate tree! Map also gives a warning to watch out for Swiper, because he will try to swipe all the people's gifts for their mommies, so protect the ingredients and stop him at all costs! So, Dora headed off to find the 3 special ingredients for Mami's cake. As Dora begins her journey for the 3 special ingredients, she hears someone whistling. Dora looks up and saw her best friend Boots. He comes down from the tree and shows her a picture of himself with his mom. Dora thought it was "very nice", and his mommy would love it. Boots knows that and then asks Dora what she was making for her mom. Dora told Boots she was making a cake for her mom and said it was gonna have bananas, nuts, and chocolate. Boots thought it was a yummy idea. He loves nuts and chocolate. But most of all, he really loves bananas. Dora asked Boots to help her find the 3 special ingredients so she can give Mami the cake. Boots accepts her request. Boots throws his picture in Dora's Backpack for safe keeping until the Mother's Day party. Dora & Boots made it to the Banana Grove. Dora gets out the recipe list. They needed 10 bananas. The blue cursor finds 5 bananas. It wasn't enough so, the blue cursor finds 3 more bananas for a total of 8. They were 2 bananas short, and soon the blue cursor found 2 more bananas to go with the 8 bananas they already found. They counted to make sure they found all 10 bananas. Sure enough, they did. Boots catches the bananas in his hands and starts juggling them. Boots needed help. He couldn't keep juggling the bananas all day, so Dora checks Backpack for a carrying tool to hold the bananas. Sure enough, Backpack had a basket. Dora gets it out and Boots tosses the 10 bananas inside it. The bananas didn't bruise and they were safe in the basket. Next, they had to get 6 nuts from the nutty forest. As Dora & Boots continued to search for the other ingredients for Mami's cake, they heard a "clang-clang" sound. Dora & Boots stopped. Dora wanted to know who was making that sound. It was Benny the bull. Benny the bull was the one who made the clang-clang sound. Benny had a cowbell. Boots thought it was nice. Benny explained that it was gonna be a present for his grandma for Mother's Day. Boots thought the cowbell was nice and loud. Suddenly, they heard Swiper the fox. Benny hides the cowbell behind his back. Swiper hangs from a tree branch and he swipes the cowbell. Then Swiper throws the cowbell and runs away. Now, Benny didn't have a present to give his grandma for Mother's Day. Dora told Benny not to worry and said that they'll find that cowbell. The cowbell goes clang-clang. Dora, Boots, and Benny played a listening game. They heard 4 different sounds. They heard a "bop-bop", a "boom-boom", a "clang-clang", and a "strum-strum". Benny looks by the tall grass and found a beetle banging on a pot, and that was not his cowbell. The blue cursor clicks on the tree. Boots scampers up the tree, grabs the cowbell, and hands it to Benny. After finding Benny's bell, Benny headed off to the Mother's Day party and will be seeing Dora & Boots later. They then figure out that a praying mantis was playing the drums that went "boom-boom", they find a porcupine playing the guitar which went "strum-strum" and the beetle beating a pot which went "bop-bop". Dora & Boots continued searching for the other ingredients for Mami's cake. They got 10 bananas, now they needed 6 nuts. They saw a nutty forest. Dora & Boots saw their friend Tico the squirrel. Tico said that he made a nut bracelet. Dora & Boots asked Tico to help get nuts for Mami's cake. Tico said that he'd be glad to. He goes up to a tree and shakes it. Suddenly nuts come down from the tree and Tico took cover. Nuts started rolling down a hill. Tico had to jump over the nuts. They told him "Salta" for jump. Tico jumps over the nuts. Then the nuts roll towards Boots. Dora & Tico told him "Salta" and he jumps over the nuts. Now, the nuts roll towards Dora at the bottom of the hill. Boots & Tico said "Salta". Dora grabs the basket with her left hand and jumps over the nuts. Tico gathers the nuts and puts them into the basket. Dora thanked Tico for the help and said he'll see her and Boots at the Mother's Day party. So far, Dora & Boots found the 10 bananas at the Banana Grove and the 6 nuts at the Nutty Forest. All they had to do is get 1 big piece of chocolate at the chocolate tree. Before they got there, they saw Isa holding a bouquet of flowers. Boots thought the flowers smelled great. Isa knew that and it was a present for her mom for the Mother's Day party. Swiper was nearby and this time they stopped Swiper from swiping Isa's flower bouquet and he runs away. Isa was on her way to the Mother's Day party with the bouquet of flowers. Dora & Boots heard the chocolate tree. They went there and Chocolate Tree took a guess on they wanted. He knew that Dora & Boots wanted chocolate for Dora's Mami. They only needed 1 big piece of chocolate. Chocolate Tree wiggles himself to see if he had any chocolate left. Sure enough, he had one big piece of chocolate for Dora & Boots. It was too high to reach. Dora puts down the basket and asked the viewer for help to reach for the chocolate. Together, the viewer helped Dora & Boots stretch up high and reach the chocolate. Dora thanked the chocolate tree. Now Dora & Boots had all the special ingredients for Mami's cake. They headed to Dora's House and showed Dora's Papi the special ingredients. They got 10 bananas, 6 nuts, and 1 big piece of chocolate. Papi was glad and now they can add the special ingredients. Boots added the bananas and nuts, while Dora got a cup of chocolate to put into the bowl. Then Papi puts the cake into a cake pan and told them that the cake will be ready in time for the Mother's Day party. Dora and Boots were excited. The cake raised in the oven and was set onto the table. At the Mother's Day party, there was Tico the Squirrel and his mom, Isa the Iguana and her mom, Benny the Bull and his grandma, and Boots the Monkey and his mom. They all gave their gifts to their mommies. Dora's present to her mom was the Mother's Day cake. Mamí and Abuela remembered that it looked just like the cake made with their moms when they were younger. It was delicious. Dora and Tico's family said "Feliz dia las madres" while everyone else said "Happy Mother's Day".

Trivia[]

  • This is one of few episodes where Dora can be seen in her house.
  • This is the first episode where Papi is voiced by recurring guest star Esai Morales. He would continue the role throughout Season 2.
  • It is revealed in this episode that Boots loves bananas and it is his favorite food (he admits that he may like nuts, he may like chocolate, but most of all, he loves bananas).
  • This is the final appearance of Dora's "Season 2, Version 1" look.
  • This is the first episode where Boots' Character Find is in a different background and has new, different animations. It would be used up until his last Character Find in La Maestra de Música.
    • Not only that, this is the first episode to feature Backpack's icon at the beginning of the Character Find segment, despite the fact she never had one.
  • Map mentions that Dora and Boots had to watch out for Swiper just like they normally do. This is most likely a reference to the fact that Swiper is known for trying to swipe presents for their mommies.
    • This is the first time Dora checks Map without Boots.
    • Grandma Fox isn't at Dora's House, because she didn't appear until Swiper's Favorite Things. Dora could tell Swiper about Mother's Day, this would've been his first time on his good side when Dora and Boots stopped him the second time he appeared.
    • This is also the second episode where Map tells the viewers to watch out for Swiper, first being Berry Hunt.
  • This episode title means "Mother's Day" or "The Day of Mothers" in Spanish.
  • This is the third episode to have a Spanish title.
  • This is the 32nd episode of the show.
  • Dora starts this episode without Boots (it is possible that he was busy drawing the picture for his mommy). She starts the adventure alone as well. He first appears after looking for the Banana Grove and then joins in for the rest of the adventure.
  • When the episode was released on Egg Hunt, the title appears before it starts.
  • When Dora and Boots yelled "Swiper!", the audio is taken from ¡Rápido, Tico!.
  • When Swiper says "You're too late!" when swiping Benny's cowbell for his grandma, the audio is taken from We All Scream for Ice Cream, but when he says "You'll never find it now!", the audio is taken from Sticky Tape.
    • Also, the background where he says "Oh, man!" (when he appeared the second time) is taken from Rojo the Fire Truck.
    • Dora, Boots and Tico are the only ones whose presents were or were not swiped by Swiper.
  • Dora, Boots, Tico, and Isa's mothers appear. Benny's grandmother appears instead of his mother.
  • This episode features the voice directors of Carin Greenberg, Jeffrey Borkin, and Siobhan Vivian.
  • This episode features 6 additional voices:
    • Maria Estrada (Debut)
    • Jessica Kirson (Debut)
    • Tobie LaSalandra (Debut)
    • Jessica DiCicco (Debut)
    • Ashley Albert (Debut)
    • Kari Wahlgren (2nd time back)
  • This episode premiered 4 days before Mother's Day 2002 (which was May 12 of that year).
    • Speaking of which, it also premiered on Paramount's 90th Anniversary; if that Anniversary logo will appear after the credits.
  • Dora and Boots only sing the Travel Song once and they don't ask "where are we going?" or the last place as their answer, they instead ask "what are we making?" and they answer it as "Mamí's cake".
  • When Boots first appears, he is whistling the theme song.
  • This is the last episode until Journey to the Purple Planet where Isa is dark green. In her next appearance, The Golden Explorers, she will be light green.
  • After Dora, Boots, and everyone sing We Did It!, the Blue Cursor doesn't click on Dora, it instead clicks on the cake.
  • This is the fourth episode in which Dora and Boots return to where they started after reaching the final place on the map. This also occurred in Three Little Piggies, Berry Hunt, and The Chocolate Tree.
    • Coincidentally, this is the second episode in a row where they went back to where they started after going to the Chocolate Tree, first being the episode of the same name.
  • In April 2003, there is a book based on this episode called "Happy Mother's Day, Mami!".
  • This episode premiered on May 8, 2002 at 11:00am (eastern) and encored Friday, May 10 at the same time, and Saturday, May 11 at 7:30am (on CBS) of the same year, leading up to Mother's Day 2002.
  • This episode premiered on Noggin on Mother's Day 2006.

    The scene in question.

  • Dora holds Boots' picture in Backpack, but Boots later gives it to his mommy without any Backpack segment. Something similar happens in Boo!.
  • This is the only episode to feature a "jumping over objects" scenario in which the objects do not roll towards the viewer.
  • The respective leitmotifs of Dora's friends play as she introduces each respective one and their mommies as they are giving out their presents.
  • Dora and Boots are so lucky that their basket is always protected from Swiper of swiping it.
  • This is the second time Boots' "Ooh-ooh-Aah-aah!" is recorded by Harrison Chad after his first shot in the episode Treasure Island.
  • If one looks closely, when Swiper is about to snap his fingers, he actually makes the starting position of the finger snap correctly (the middle finger and thumb pressed together), as opposed to other episodes where he does it wrong (using the index finger instead).

Goofs/Errors[]

  • iTunes lists this episode as "El Dia de las Madres". The D in "de" and the L in "las" are lowercase and the accent on the I is left out.
  • While Papi makes the cake, Boots puts the 10 bananas and 6 nuts in the bowl. However, there were actually 7 nuts instead of 6.
