Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is an 2025 American adventure comedy film directed by Alberto Belli from a screenplay written by JT Billings. It is based on the animated television series Dora the Explorer created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes, and Eric Weiner, serving as a live-action adaptation.[2] It is produced by Nickelodeon Studios and stars Samantha Lorraine and Jacob Rodriguez, with Mariana Garzón Toro, Acston Luca Porto, Daniella Pineda and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias in supporting roles. The film will be released on July 2, 2025 on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon.[1]

Kicking off a raft of content launching as part of “The Great Dora Fiesta,” celebrating the franchise’s 25-year anniversary, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado follows a 16-year-old version of Latina heroine Dora (Samantha Lorraine), the world’s greatest explorer, as she and her friends trek through the perilous dangers of the Amazonian jungle in search of the ancient treasure of Sol Dorado to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.[1]

On May 8, 2024, Nickelodeon Studios revealed a new live-action Dora the Explorer feature being made for Paramount+ and Nickelodeon with a working title of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado. Alberto Belli, who directed Disney+ holiday feature The Naughty Nine and episodes of Disney show Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion, is directing the new production with JT Billings writing the screenplay.[2]

On May 8, 2024, Samantha Lorraine was cast in the eponymous role.[2] On June 14, 2024, Jacob Rodriguez was cast in the role of Diego.[3] On May 20, 2025, Mariana Garzón Toro, Acston Luca Porto, Daniella Pineda and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias joined the film's cast.[1][4]
Filming[]
Principal photography began on August 9, 2024, in Rio Claro, Colombia,[5] with Federico Cantini serving as the cinematographer.[6]
Release[]
Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is set to premiere on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Wednesday, July 2, with plans to debut in international territories shortly thereafter.[1]

- This is the second Dora inspired film following Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
- Unlike this movie, the monkey used for Boots is different.
- And speaking of different, Dora and Diego are portrayed by different actors.
- Naiya from Dora and Friends: Into the City appears, and she has a brother named Sonny.
- The movie kicks off "The Great Dora Fiesta," an anniversary initiative featuring an array of brand-new multiplatform content and experiences for kids and families, marking 25 historical years of silver of the franchise.[1][4]
- Unlike the original film, Dora's outfit in this film is modeled after her Season 7-8 outfit, with her pants reaching her knees and her shoes are pink with white soles.
