Dora and the Fantastical Creatures (also known as Dora y las Criaturas Fantásticas) is a theatrical short film from the Dora franchise. The film served as an early promotion for the reboot series Dora and premiered in theaters on September 29, 2023, along with PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie.

Synopsis[]

Dora and Boots embark on an incredible adventure to the land of alebrijes, the most magical and colorful creatures in the rainforest. There, they must band together against Swiper to save the beloved alebrijes and their Copal Tree Celebration.

Summary[]

Dora and Boots are on their way to their Copal Tree Celebration in a magical dreamland of alebrijes. On entrance, they slide down a rainbow and meet their friend Ale, an alebrije, who explains that a ball of energy called "Glowie" powers the Copal Tree and helps baby alebrijes grow. As the celebration begins, however, Swiper swipes Glowie, and Dora, Boots, and Ale set off after him. As they dash through a cave, they lose track of Swiper. Dora asks the sun to set, allowing the land to become dark and allowing them to easily spot Glowie and Swiper. To retrieve Glowie back, Dora, Boots, and Ale, along with the audience, say "Swiper, no swiping" three times to Swiper, who obliges and returns it. The three put Glowie back in place, and the celebration continues as baby alebrijes hatch off the Copal tree.

Trivia[]

  • This marks the first appearance of Dora's new design and it also marks the first time Diana Zermeño voices Dora after the departure of the Season 7-8 actress Fátima Ptacek. She once again reverts to her Season 1-6 base outfit instead of her Season 7-8 one, like in Dora and the Lost City of Gold while having eyebrows as seen in Dora and Friends: Into the City!. She now has teeth from her mouth and she wears a purple shirt underneath her Season 1-6 pink T-Shirt.
  • The opening of this pilot uses the surprising comeback return of the Nickelodeon Movies 2009 logo since the 2011 movie Rango.
  • This short marks the first time Boots is voiced by Asher Spence after the departure of Koda Gursoy.
  • This is one of the only movies where Dora breaks the 4th wall like in the original series.
  • This is the first animated short film in the Dora franchise.
  • Swiper acts very evil, rude and selfish to Dora and Boots after Dora tells him to give back Glowie, instead of switching to his good side.
