Dora's Pirate Adventure! (also known as Give Us Back Our Treasure!, The Pirate Play, or Dora I: The Pirate Adventure) is a Dora the Explorer TV movie musical and the first double-length episode of the series since Seasons 1 and 2 never had any. It is also the 22nd episode of Season 3. It would also be the 23rd episode of Season 3 if following the Noggin premiere of To the South Pole. In production order, it is the 25th and final episode of Season 3. Much of the characters' dialogue is sung in the style of operetta.

During Season 4, this episode was aired for the first time on Nickelodeon on January 17, 2005, making this technically the second aired double-length episode.

Plot[]

Part 1: The Pirate Play/The Pirate Pigs' betrayal/The Journey to Treasure Island Begins![]

The episode begins at the theater with Dora peeking out through the curtains of a stage. She says hello to the viewer, then explains that she, Boots, Benny, Isa, Tico, Diego and Baby Jaguar are putting on a play about pirates. Dora asks the viewer if they like to sing and dance. In Dora's response she loves to sing and dance and does Boots, Benny, Isa, Tico, Diego, and Baby Jaguar. Everybody then begins singing "We Love to Sing". After the song, Dora asks the viewer if they want to join their pirate play. The viewer accepted the request. Then, Dora shows the viewer a cannon showing that whenever it booms, it comes out of the confetti and everyone is preparing to say the magic words: "Give us back our treasure!" Dora and the gang practice the line a few times. Dora and Boots take a peek at their families. After that, Benny, Isa, Tico, Diego and Baby Jaguar wanted to know where their pirate costumes were. Dora tells them that the costumes were in the treasure chest. Dora and Boots pull it out and they sing "Pirate Costumes". The viewer looks in the chest for a pirate hat for Benny, pirate boots for Boots, a pirate patch for Tico, a spotting scope for Isa, a golden hook for Diego and a flag for Baby Jaguar. (Perhaps there's another thing that Dora shows the audience her light blue pirate jacket in the chest). The gang continues to sing "Pirate Costumes". Suddenly, the music stops and Benny's stomach growls. "I wish I ate," says Benny and everyone got confused. The song resumes telling the viewer that they're all going to be in the big pirate play.

All of a sudden, the pirate pigs were looking for treasure. Pirate Pig, who now has the voice of the guest star John Leguizamo instead of Chris Gifford, sings his song while his pirate piggies crew join in. After the tune, Pirate Pig sees the treasure chest, which they did not know it had costumes. The pirate pigs hid behind the treasure chest. Nearby, Dora and Boots were practicing their lines. They got interrupted when they saw that the pirate pigs have come. The pirate pigs take their treasure chest filled with costumes. The pirate pigs thought it had gold in the chest. The pirate pigs return to their pirate ship taking the treasure chest filled with costumes with them and they now betray Dora and her friends. Dora and the gang tried to stop the pirate pigs but they were long gone. If Dora and the gang do not get their treasure chest back, they cannot dress up as pirates. But not only that, if they cannot dress up as pirates, they cannot put on a pirate play.

Everybody except Dora turns away as they sadly sang "We cannot do the play without our pirate costumes" twice. Dora had a thought of an idea and wanted to get their attention. Dora sings to the group that she understands that it is going bad and that they are feeling mad. Dora then says that they should not surrender, they should not feel sad and they will find a way to get their costumes back. Dora stops and thinks. Dora thought that she and her group can get their costumes back as long as they know where to go. Boots tells Dora that they do not know where to go. Dora asks the viewer "Well, who do we ask for help when we don't know where to go?" Boots tells Dora "The Map!" The cast and the viewer say it with her. Map pops out of Backpack and lands on a picture map singing his own song with the Pirate Band playing an accordion and a tuba in warp speed like in Seasons 1 and 2. Map tells the viewer that pirate pigs took the treasure chest to Treasure Island; a place that has made a recurring appearance since the namesake episode of Season 1. Map explains how they have to get to Treasure Island. Map tells the viewer that Dora and her pirate crew have to sail cross the seven seas, go under the singing bridge to get to Treasure Island. Also, they can catch singing stars along the way with the biggest and strongest star of all. Dora sings out the places. The first place they have to go is the seven seas.

Dora and her pirate gang have to figure out a way to cross the seven seas. They use a pirate ship from the play. They all wondered how they were going to get it into the water. Sure enough, Tico gets behind the boat and tells the group that they should push the boat. Dora & her pirate gang pushed the boat by saying and singing "Empujen!" multiple times until the boat went into the water. After that, Dora and her pirate gang jump into their pirate boat as they sail to Treasure Island. The cast sings "We're sailing to Treasure Island". At the end of it, Baby Jaguar goes overboard. Baby Jaguar pokes his head out of the water. He was okay, because jaguars are great swimmers. They just needed a life preserver (which is round like a giant donut). Diego gets the life preserver and tosses it into the water. Baby Jaguar was in the life preserver. The entire cast helps Diego pull Baby Jaguar up and out of the water. Diego dries him off with a towel. Baby Jaguar thanks the viewer for helping, because he's lucky to get out of there. Immediately after that, Tico saw the seven seas. They had to be sure they make it across all seven seas. The pirate boat makes it through all seven seas. Along the way, they see Kevin the turtle. After making it through the seven seas, six classic stars appeared and flew all over the place! The "Star Catching Song" plays. Tico saw an explorer star who is big, blue, had lots of muscles and wears a red cape. It was Hero Star! Diego uses his field journal and explained that Hero Star is the biggest & strongest of all the explorer stars; stronger than Supra, Ultra and Mega. Hero Star sings a scale, glissando, as he lifts up some barrels. The other stars go, "Catch us, catch us! Catch us, catch us!". Dora sings out the star catching tune telling the viewer that they have to catch the stars. Dora tells the viewer and to the group to "reach up, reach up" and "catch them, catch them". Dora and the gang each caught a star. Then, they put them in the star pocket.

Dora and the group had to figure out where to next. They made it past the seven seas. Next, they had to go to the singing bridge. The cast sings "We're Sailing to Treasure Island" for the second time. When it finishes, Baby Jaguar remains on the boat. Map tells the viewers that the musical pirate adventure will be continued after these messages (obviously cut from the VHS/DVD version).

Part 2: The Journey Continues/The Arrival to Treasure Island/The Return of Swiper[]

Dora and the cast are welcoming back the audience and they had a recap of what happened to the previous part (TV airing only). Last time, the Pirate Pigs now betrayed the pirate play's cast and they took the treasure chest that has costumes and it was guarded from Treasure Island! So for now after crossing the Seven Seas and catching Hero Star with other 6 classic colored stars and putting them into the star pocket, they now must go to the singing bridge. Hoist the sails! Raise the anchor and yo ho, let's go, crew! ¡Adelante! On the way, Tico saw Pirate Parrot coming their way (original TV version and remastered version of Paramount Plus only). Pirate Parrot heard everything what happened to their treasure chest and about the fact the pirate pigs thought it had gold in there. Pirate Parrot was sure that the group is going to get their costumes back, but they had to beware of the foggy fog. Pirate Parrot sings about the foggy fog, which is a cloudy fog. He then explains that if they are inside the fog, it will be really hard to see. Soon after, the pirate ship goes into the foggy fog. It was certainly hard to see. Isa thinks she'll never get the pirate boat to the singing bridge in the foggy fog. She could crash into something. Suddenly, Benny bumps into a pile barrels. Diego picks him up. Benny thanks Diego for the help. Suddenly, Dora and the group heard an animal that went "Ah-ooh". Diego knew what it was. The others sing a song called "What is it, Diego?". Diego explains that the animal swims in the sea, is big, strong, and weighs 100 tons. The viewer knew that it was a whale. The others were in shock. The whale could not see where he was going, he may crash into the pirate boat. Diego and the others called out to the whale. The whale opened his eyes and stopped. Then, he turned around and swam in a safer direction. The whale thanked them for the warning. After the whale was gone, the foggy fog disappeared.

"I'm the bridge that sings," said a voice. Isa heard the singing bridge. She steers the pirate boat to the singing bridge at once. Dora & the gang had to go through the singing bridge. They played a singing game by teaching the singing bridge the right words to his songs. They teach him the right words to "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", and "Old Macdonald Had a Farm". After that, the singing bridge opened up. The pirate boat sails through. So far, the group crossed the 7 seas and went through the singing bridge. Now, all they have to do is go to the final destination of Treasure Island to get their treasure chest filled with costumes back before the bad pirate piggies throw it into the bottom of the sea! Or worst of all, an intruder enters Treasure Island after he sailed his pirate ship. Pirate Parrot gives the group a warning of more obstacles. On their way to Treasure Island, they have to watch out for the big bad rocks. Pirate Parrot sings out the tune about the big bad rocks. Soon after, they started looking for the big bad rocks. Once they did, the group had to tell Isa to turn the wheel. The cast sing "Isa, Turn the Wheel" to Isa. Isa turned the wheel to the right to avoid the big bad rocks. The group watched out for more big bad rocks. Dora and the gang sing to Isa once more and Isa turned the wheel to the left.

Pirate Parrot was impressed, but then he gave another warning. They had to be sure that they do not go over a huge waterfall. The viewer saw the huge waterfall. Isa had to turn the wheel, so they do not go over the waterfall. But the pirate wheel breaks! They had to fix the pirate wheel with something sticky. Dora has the viewer to check her backpack, but unlike the last episodes of saying "Backpack!" in English, they have to say her name in Spanish which was Mochila.

Backpack appears and tells the viewer that they need something to stick the pirate wheel back together. Backpack tells the viewer that the sticky tape will fix it like from last episodes. The sticky tape comes out of Backpack. Dora puts sticky tape on where it broke apart on the pirate wheel. Soon after, Isa really had to get ready to turn the wheel. The group sing to Isa one more time. The pirate boat was about to go over the waterfall but Isa turned the wheel just in time. Boots goes to Isa and they both wipe their heads and give a sigh of relief. Not long after that, the pirate boat arrives at Treasure Island as the Captain Viewer yelled "Land ho!!". Dora, Boots, Benny, Isa, Tico, Diego, Cannon and Baby Jaguar get off the pirate boat looking for the treasure chest. But then, they all stopped because they heard a "whisk, whisk-whisk" sound of an intruder. Swiper has returned to Treasure Island like in the namesake episode of Season 1! Unless, he's not wearing new pirate outfit with a new cape this time. The cast sing a song about how they stopped Swiper in the (almost) past episodes. The group was looking for Swiper. Swiper is really quick, but they know how to stop him because they all know the trick. As soon as Swiper charges, they got ready to sing to Swiper, "Swiper, no swiping!" three times. Swiper goes "Oh" seven times and then he finally sings "Oh man!", snaps his fingers and runs away. Dora thanks the viewer for helping them stop Swiper.

Now, it was time to look for the treasure chest. Diego gets out the spotting scope which is like a small telescope. They find a red and blue turtle, a red log with a pink crab inside it and then they found the red and blue treasure chest. Once they got to it, he pirate pigs guarded it. The pirate pigs taunted Dora and the group that they're not getting their treasure chest back. Dora and the group told the pigs that they have to give it back. The pirate pigs say that they will not. Everyone asked each other how they were going to get their costumes back. Dora chills them out by saying "Guys, guys, guys! Atención, atención! We can get our costumes back!", then she asks the viewer if they were ready to say their line. The cannon goes "Boom!", then the viewer and the cast tell the pirate pigs, "Give us back our treasure!". They say it again out loud. The pirate pigs finally agree and sing "Okay!". Soon after, the pirate piggies tried to pick up the treasure chest but it was heavy and it goes over the cliff. Hero Star immediately comes out of the star pocket and streaks down the cliff to catch the treasure chest. then, Hero Star picks up the heavy chest and gets it back up to the top of the cliff. Immediately after that, the group put on their pirate costumes. Benny got his pirate hat; Boots got his pirate boots; Tico got his pirate patch; Isa got her telescope; Diego got his golden hook and Baby Jaguar got the pirate flag. Benny's stomach growls and still wished he ate as the cast got confused again. The group had all their pirate stuff back and were going to put on their big pirate play.

Pirate Pig did not know that there were costumes in there and thought it had gold. They were sorry and saw that Dora and her gang were putting on a play. A pirate play to be specific. The pirate pigs get in a huddle. Pirate Pig tells Dora that pirates loves to sing and asks if they would like to be in their pirate play. The pirate piggies pleaded. Dora turns the group and they all nodded their heads up and down for "yes". Dora agrees and says "Sure" to the pirate pigs. Pirate Pig starts the song "Pirates Love to Sing". Dora and the group join in. When the song continued, everyone goes from Treasure Island to performing on stage. Everybody in the audience clapped, cheered, as gave them a standing ovation. It certainly was a great dramatic pirate adventure and a successful pirate play.

Trivia[]

  • It is revealed that Boots has two sisters, as they appear in the crowd
  • This episode premiered on Nickelodeon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2005 and on Presidents Day of the same year on Noggin.
  • Swiper was gonna be on his good side in the episode to join the pirate play, but Dora and her friends stopped him after he was gonna swipe the treasure chest, but nothing at all.
  • Backpack did not say catchphrase "Yum-yum-yum-yum-yum, ¡Delicioso!" normally. Instead, she sings it. This also happened in "Dora, La Música" (except "Yum-yum-yum-yum-yum!" is sung to the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel", then says "Delicioso!" normally). She will sing her catchphrase the same way as this episode in "La Maestra de Música".
  • Alicia, the Bobo Brothers, Click, and Rescue Pack do not appear in this episode nor went to see the Pirate Play, because this was produced before "Go, Diego, Go!" went into production.
  • There are a couple firsts in this episode:
    1. This is the first double-length episode of the series, since Seasons 1 and 2 don't have any.
      • Despite this, "Dora's Fairytale Adventure" is the actual first double-length episode to premiere on TV, due to this episode being released on home media first, thus making this the second aired double-length episode.
    2. This is the first time Benny, Isa, and Tico are all present together throughout the entire episode. This also happens to We're a Team!.
    3. This is the first double-length episode featuring the Explorer Stars. They will be featured one more time in "Dora's Fairytale Adventure". (In TV airing order, it's the other way around.)
      • This is the only double-length episode to be a true star-catching episode, since the stars go inside the star pocket as usual. In "Dora's Fairytale Adventure", the stars don't go inside the star pocket, but instead fly away for reasons unknown.
  • This is the second episode with Treasure Island as the destination. The first being the episode of the same name. And thanks to this, this musical episode is a sequel after Episode 7 of Season 1.
  • This episode reveals that Diego's field journal has not only animals, but also Explorer Stars.
  • The Blue Cursor does not click on Dora after singing We Did It!, nor does it click on her at the end of the episode, it instead clicks on the treasure chest and slightly Boots' tail.
  • Tico's pirate jacket and sash look similar to the jacket and sash worn by Captain Feathersword from the Australian children's band and Lyrick Studios/HIT Entertainment/Playhouse Disney/PBS Kids Sprout/Universal Kids TV show, The Wiggles.
  • Baby Jaguar would wear a pirate costume again in the Go, Diego, Go! episode, Freddie the Fruit Bat Saves Halloween!, except he wears a pirate hat and an eye patch instead of a bandana unlike this episode.
  • This episode features the voice director of Michael Rubin.
  • This episode features the special guest voices of Alan Cumming, Wanda Sykes, Candi Milo, and Cyndi Lauper.
  • This is the second time that Swiper is encountered at Treasure Island, it first happened in the Season 1 episode with the location's name.
  • Usually, Pirate Pig is voiced by Chris Gifford for all episodes, but in this double-length episode, he is voiced by guest star John Leguizamo, who played as Luigi in the 1993 Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age franchise, and later Bruno Madrigal in Encanto. He will later voice the Silly Mail Bird in The Super Silly Fiesta and the Flying Monkeys in Dora's Big Birthday Adventure.
    • The is the first time a character has their voice replaced for one episode. This won’t happen again until Dora's Easter Adventure, in which the Fiesta Trio are voiced by the beatboxer and rapper Rahzel.
  • The audio where Abuela said Dora's name is taken from Grandma's House.
  • It is confirmed that Hero Star is the strongest Explorer Star out all of them. This means that he is most likely even stronger than Supra, Ultra, and Mega from Baby Dino.
  • This is the only time the entire cast stands behind the 3 picture pop-up sequence, but it was only during the third one, as the first and second ones have Dora by herself like usual.
  • The Seven Seas can also be known as the 7 Numbers except they're not called numbers, they're called seas.
    • In real life, the term "seven seas" refers to the seven major oceans across the globe: the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Artic, the Mediterranean, the Indian, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico.
  • The NickJr.com website from 2004-2007 lists this episode as "The Pirate Play".
  • This is the third episode where Gabriel Alvarez voices Diego instead of Andres and Felipe Dieppa after Baseball Boots and Boots' Cuddly Dinosaur.
  • When everyone rides on their ship trying to get their pirate costumes back for their play, they don't wear any lifejackets, due to it being large and not needed to be rowed.
  • When the cast is at the Singing Bridge, the Singing Bridge sings "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" incorrectly as "How I wonder what you ate for breakfast are", then he sings "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" incorrectly as "Life is but a bowl of spaghetti dream", followed by "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" incorrectly as "Old MacDonald had some pants a farm, O-E-O-E-O-E E-I-E-I-O". The cast is then asked to sing them correctly (correct lyrics are in bold above).
    • The concept of singing nursery rhymes with silly lyrics and getting the characters to sing them correctly is retained from the episode, The Super Silly Fiesta.
  • This is the eleventh instance where Dora and Boots returned to where they started from after reaching the final place on the map, something that also occurred in Three Little Piggies, Berry Hunt, The Chocolate Tree, El Día De Las Madres, Click!, A Present For Santa, School Pet, Save the Puppies!, What Happens Next?, and Journey to the Purple Planet.
  • A touring live show of the series based on this episode was staged in 2005.
  • This is the last episode of Season 3 in production order.
  • Map does not say, "Try and catch stars along the way!", he instead says, "And try to catch singing stars along the way!".
  • Swiper has a short role in this double-length episode. He appears before the cast enters Treasure Island, and the cast stops him by saying "Swiper, no swiping" 3 times in song.
    • Despite swiping nothing, the Pirate Pig and the Pirate Piggies take Swiper's role for betraying their friends as the new antagonists for the first special.
    • Additionally, much like the Witch from Dora Saves the Prince, Señor Shush from Dora, La Música, and the Dog Catcher from Save the Puppies!, the Pirate Pig and the Pirate Piggies reformed themselves and is forgiven by Dora and the cast for their actions.
  • This episode, tied with The Big Potato, ¡Por Favor!, Baby Dino, and The Super Silly Fiesta, has the third most number of stars caught being 7.
  • This is the second time Howie Dorough guest voices a character in the series (the Singing Bridge), as he previously voiced Santa Claus in A Present For Santa.
  • Irony: The Pirate Piggies act like they don't know Dora and the cast, when in other episodes, they're great friends.
  • This is the 78th episode of the show (79th if following the Noggin premiere of To the South Pole).
  • This is the first episode to premiere in 2005.
  • There is a lot of singing and music in this episode.
    • This episode has 16 songs, excluding Dora The Explorer Theme Song and ¡Empujen! (Push!), counting Stop and Think/The Map! as two songs and both versions of Pirate Costumes as one, the most amount of songs in any Dora media.
    • Everyone is singing "Pirate Costumes" including Dora when she is looking for all the things everyone needs that are in the treasure chest and she asks the viewer for help of what each of her friends want, but she doesn't include her own costume from the treasure chest in the song. If she did, she would most likely sing about her pirate jacket since that was the only pirate set not included.
    • Map, Dora and her friends sing out the places to go instead of saying them. (This also happens when Map tells the viewer that Dora and her pirate gang have to cross the seven seas, go through the singing bridge to get to Treasure Island.)
      • This means Map says "Sing it with me!" instead of "Say it with me!".
    • Everyone sings ¡Empujen! while getting the boat into the water. As "¡Empuje!" is repeated over and over again, it cannot really be considered as a song.
    • This is one of the few episodes in which Tico speaks English throughout the episode. He sang the main songs in English, he says "Give us back our treasure!" and "Swiper no swiping" with the cast, and sang "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" in English with the cast at the Singing Bridge.
    • The Travel Song is not featured in this episode. The cast instead sings "We're Sailing to Treasure Island".
      • When this song is sung the first time, Baby Jaguar technically cuts it off at the very end due to him going overboard. However, he does not go overboard again the second time.
    • The Spanish version of "Backpack, Backpack", featured in the Latin American version of Dora the Explorer is used in this episode instead of the English version. This is because the theme of the episode is pirates, Backpack gets to be the Spanish singer for this episode.
      • In all the international adaptations in which the secondary language is English, the original English "Backpack, Backpack" is used instead.
    • This is the first episode in which the entire cast stops Swiper singing "Swiper, no swiping!" the first two times and saying it normally the third time.
    • Swiper did not say his catchphrase "Oh, man!" normally. Instead, he sings it ("Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! Oh, man!").
    • This is the first episode to feature the extended version of "We Did It".
    • When everyone says "Uh-oh!" after Swiper makes his rustling sound, Baby Jaguar can be seen lip-syncing that he almost made a first speaking role before Go, Diego, Go!.
    • When Dora and her friends count out how many stars they caught (in Spanish), they sing while they count instead of speaking.
    • The "Star Catching Song" (entitled as "Reach Up and Catch the Stars!" in the album) is the only song from this episode to appear in the album.
    • In 2012, Nick Jr. made their own version of We're Sailing to Treasure Island/Pirates Love to Sing in their "High Seas" theme. Dora, Boots, and Diego have different voices and characters from other Nick Jr. shows appear such as the Bubble Guppies and Milli, Geo, and Bot from Team Umizoomi. A lot of the dancing animation from this episode was recycled into the song. The lyrics can be found here.
    • Altogether, this episode seems like a special musical.
  • This episode could be Dora's version of the 2000 movie "Blue's Big Musical Movie" from Blue's Clues, since there’s a lot of songs (and singing) in both specials.
    • Coincidentally, both feature the entire cast present singing on stage at the end (including their ending songs. Additionally, the setting ends at the stage). Not only that, but they're also both hour-long specials (and the first ones in both shows).
    • The episode will later have a similar treatment with the Blaze and the Monster Machines special "The Treasure of the Broken Key", since there's a lot of singing and is pirate-themed.
    • Additionally, this later happens to the new superhero musical-adventure series that has a lot of singing with action, rescue and adventure in March 2006 called "The Wonder Pets!".
  • Although this episode was released on home media in 2004 and premiered in 2005, it was produced in 2002 according to the end credits.
  • The boots from Dora's pirate costume will be reused for her Friendship Day dress in Dora's World Adventure!.
  • In Part 2 of this double-length episode in TV airing, Dora is telling the viewers about the recap of what happened to the last part. This will do for more double-length episodes like the Fairytale Adventure, Saving King Unicorn and more.
  • During Isa, Turn the Wheel, Isa said "I can't hear you!" just like The Grumpy Old Troll in "The Fix-it Machine" and "Louder!".
  • The Explorer Stars flying animations from Map's segment is recycled from Dora Had a Little Lamb, Stuck Truck, Roberto the Robot, Louder! and ¡Por Favor!.
  • When the Fiesta Trio says, "Estrellas!" the audio is taken from What Happens Next?.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • The remastered version, Paramount Plus (Paramount+) and YouTube has Tico saying "¡Miren, miren!" (the same scene used before the Seven Seas were revealed) after singing "We're Sailing to Treasure Island" the second time when he sees the Pirate Parrot coming in. However, in the VHS/DVD versions, after the second "We're Sailing to Treasure Island", Pirate Parrot comes in immediately after.
  • Due to the sped-up credits in the YouTube version, the sound effects are out of sync, despite Dora’s voice removed. The 1999 Nick Jr. Productions logo is also sped-up to the credit music, with the ending whoosh.
  • Streaming services, such as Amazon Prime and iTunes, list this episode as "The Pirate Adventure". "Dora" is replaced with the word "The".
  • When Dora turns around after she says, "If you see more rocks, say 'Rocks!'", remains of her foot can be shown so it can look like she has three feet.
    • This is similar to when Boots first talks about visiting his dad at work in the episode Boots' Special Day, where his tail can be shown so it can look like he has two tails.
  • When Dora is singing one of the nursery rhymes to singing bridge, her bracelet can be shown turning blue.
  • At the end of the episode, when Dora and her friends are counting the stars, the stars' colors are different than what they were at the beginning. Originally, there were two red stars, a silver star, a gold star, a purple star, and a dark blue star. At the end of the episode, there are two red stars, an orange star, a yellow star, a blue star, and a purple star.
  • Dora's face design changes halfway through the episode; she begins with her "Season 3, Version 3" appearance, but after the ship enters the Foggy Fog and she says "Wow!", she changes to her "Season 3, Version 5" appearance for the rest of the episode.
    • It's possible both parts had animated her movements differently.
  • At the beginning of the episode, the amphitheater for the pirate play is shown to have a painted blue sky and sea backdrop; however, after the "Pirate Costumes" sequence, the backdrop disappears for the rest of the episode, not even appearing during the play at the end.
  • It is unknown how a scene from this episode appeared in the Go, Diego, Go! episode "Journey to Jaguar Mountain" if no one was seen actually taking the picture, Glowy appears, and Diego's outfit looks different.
  • In some pictures, Diego's pirate outfit is a red bandana, white shirt, white and red striped pants, and brown shoes, although in the actual episode, his bandana and shirt were blue/purple, his pants had black and white stripes, and his shoes were black.
  • In real life, there are no waterfalls in the ocean, which would break the laws of physics.
  • Boots says Swiper will try to swipe the treasure chest even though that was before they found it, leading to him being accidentally stopped.
  • In some scenes with Diego's pirate outfit, his orange backpack (later known as Rescue Pack) is missing.
  • After We Love to Sing, Dora already introduces the viewer to the phrase "Give Us Back Our Treasure" and presents a cannon, before the treasure gets taken by the Pirate Piggies and their Captain.
    • It is possible that Dora and her friends planned ahead and introduced it, just in case the Pirate Piggies come and take the treasure.
  • While singing "We Did It!", Map doesn't have his pirate outfit.
