Dora's Moonlight Adventure is the 7th episode of Dora the Explorer from Season 7.

In production order, it's the 6th episode of Season 7.

One night, while taking care of Abuela's three kitties (Pico, Monica, and Lucky), Dora awakens to find that Lucky has chased a ball of string right into a storybook world! Help her find him on a magical moonlight dream adventure!

The adventure begins in the cozy setting of Dora's house, where the warm glow of a lamp illuminates her room, casting a soft ambiance as she tends to the lively kittens. Little does she know that this ordinary evening will transform into a journey beyond imagination. The episode unfolds like a dream, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy.

As the enchanting "Chasing a Ball of String" song sets the stage, Dora, fueled by determination, embarks on an exploration through various dreamscapes, accompanied only by Pico and Monica, as Boots takes a backseat in this particular tale. The trio ventures into the mystical forest, where the moonlight casts an ethereal glow on the trees, creating a surreal ambiance.

The plot thickens as Dora discovers the captivating Stormy Water, a dreamlike realm that adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure. Navigating this fantastical WaterWorld, Dora encounters an endearing owl, introducing an unexpected ally in her quest to retrieve Lucky from the clutches of the storybook world.

Each step of the journey is punctuated by lively tunes, with the "Kitty-Cat Dance" accompanying the trio's whimsical movements and contributing to the overall enchantment of the dream adventure. The music becomes a magical thread weaving through the narrative, much like the ball of string that propels the story forward.

Throughout the dream adventure, Dora, without her trusty map, relies on the trail of string left behind by Lucky, demonstrating her resourcefulness and determination. The absence of the Fiesta Trio and Map, save for the latter's cameo appearance in the "We Did It!" song, adds a unique twist to the usual dynamics of Dora's quests.

As the dream unfolds, Dora's interactions with Swiper take an unexpected turn. In a departure from the norm, Boots is notably absent, and Dora, accompanied by Pico, Monica, and the ever-engaged viewer, confronts Swiper independently. This deviation from the usual dynamic showcases Dora's growing confidence and ability to handle challenges on her own.

Noteworthy details abound in this dreamlike narrative—Dora's rain gear during the boat ride across Stormy Water, the various rain hats in Backpack suited for different characters, and even a moment of nostalgia as a picture of Dora and Boots from Season 1 graces the bedroom wall.

The "We Did It!" song, usually a familiar anthem of triumph, takes on a fresh twist with different instrumentals, emphasizing the uniqueness of this dream adventure. Dora's attire undergoes a subtle transformation, as she sports a nightgown, a departure from her usual two-piece pink pajamas, hinting at the passage of time within the dream realm.

Even in the smallest details, such as Dora's direct engagement with the viewer—altering the usual question format and response acknowledgment—create a distinctive atmosphere, showcasing the episode's commitment to breaking the mold.

The dream adventure, a mesmerizing blend of imagination and reality, concludes with Dora, Pico, Monica, and the viewer reflecting on their favorite parts of the dream rather than the trip—a subtle yet meaningful departure from the usual script. The mermaid's voice, portrayed by Sofia Singer, adds an extra layer of charm to the episode's finale.

However, not without its quirks, the episode exhibits minor inconsistencies, such as the visual discrepancy in Dora's appearance during the viewer interaction segment. Yet, these imperfections merely serve as testament to the dreamlike nature of the narrative, where reality and fantasy intertwine seamlessly.

In an unexpected but delightful twist, the close-up of Dora falling asleep becomes a poignant final clip for the Nick Jr. channel's sign-off video from 2012-2015, immortalizing the dream adventure as a timeless moment in Dora's storytelling legacy.

From the captivating beginning to the dreamy conclusion, "Dora's Dream Adventure" weaves a tale that transcends the ordinary, providing a detailed and accurate portrayal of a magical journey where the boundaries between dreams and reality blur, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of both young and old fans alike.

Items in Backpack[]

  • Regular rain hat (correct item for Dora)
  • Rain hats with short, pointy ears (correct item for the kittens)

  • Dora doesn't ask Map for directions in this episode, because she follows the string trail for her dream adventure.
  • As Dora, Pico, and Monica go to find Lucky, Dora rolls up the string of yarn.
  • The Fiesta Trio and Map don't appear in this episode.
    • However, Map appears in the "We Did It!" song as a cameo.
    • Ironically, all sing "I'm the Map!" and were all voiced by Marc Weiner.
  • This episode was released on Dora's Rescue in Mermaid Kingdom on DVD before it aired on TV.
  • This is the second episode where Dora has gone across the Stormy Water after Star Catcher. But this time, she is with Pico and Monica instead of Boots.
  • In this episode, Dora is seen in rain gear when on the boat.
  • Boots doesn't go anywhere with Dora in this episode.
  • Dora stops Swiper alone without Boots, just like in Best Friends.
    • However, she still has Pico and Monica (and the viewer) to help her out.
  • In Dora's bedroom, there's a picture of her and Boots on her wall over her bed showing their Season 1 designs.
  • This is the first of three episodes in which the "We Did It!" song has different instrumentals.
  • This is the 145th episode of the show.
  • Dora doesn't ask the viewer "What was your favorite part of the trip?", she instead asks "What was your favorite part of the dream?". Also, she doesn't say, "I like that, too!" after the viewer's response, she says, "Oh yeah! I love that part!" instead.
  • This is the only episode of the series to feature a newer version of the Blue Cursor.
    • When the string got stuck on Boots' tree before Dora pulls it off while he's sleeping she doesn't mention him in his tree sleeping, she just asks the viewer where the string is stuck on and a new version of the Blue Cursor clicks on his tree. This happens every time the string is stuck. But the cursor is only used during these instances.
  • The Travel Song is replaced by Chasing a Ball of String in this episode.
  • This the first episode that Dora now wears a nightgown instead of her two-piece pink pajamas from the past episodes Boots' Cuddly Dinosaur, Louder!, and Catch the Babies. It is possible that she donated her previous pajamas, because she has grown out of them.
  • The close-up of Dora falling asleep was used as the final clip for the Nick Jr. channel's sign off video from 2012-2015.
  • The mermaid in this episode is voiced by Sofia Singer.
  • The YouTube version does its usual edit including the fast-paced Nickelodeon logo with the closing credits theme playing over it.

  • When Dora asks the viewer what their favorite part of the dream was, she has her wider Season 4-6 look.
  • In one scene, you can see Pico's eyebrows are missing.
  • Unlike other episodes, when Dora, Pico, and Monica stop Swiper, they don't look at him, they instead look at the viewer.
