- There are several notable differences from the book when compared to the actual episode:
- It starts with Dora already with Backpack, and doesn't mention she just got her from Mami and Papi.
- Boots does not cry, nor get a boo-boo.
- Despite that, the soft bandage is still in her backpack.
- In the book, the storm cloud appears after going over the Troll Bridge; in the episode, it occurred before that.
- In the book, it is said that the rain from the storm cloud made the Icky Sticky Sand.
- Not only that, the Icky Sticky Sand is on the Map, unlike the episode.
- Turtle River replaces the Big Rock.
- In the book, Dora only uses a rope to pull Boots out of the Icky Sticky Sand; in the episode, the rope is also used for Dora and Boots to climb the Big Rock.
- Because the Big Rock was replaced with Turtle River, the sticky tape was replaced with lifejackets.
- In the book, Swiper tries to swipe Dora and Boots' lifejackets but is stopped; in the episode, he swipes Backpack.
