Summary[]
Go ahead, make Boots' day! Because it's Boots' special day - un día especial! Help him do everything he loves, like lead the Big Drum Parade, see the animals at Diego's Animal Rescue Center, and even visit his Daddy at work.
Plot[]
It was a beautiful day in the rainforest. Dora and Boots are on a dirt path when suddenly, confetti falls on them! The Fiesta Trio has a special announcement to make: it's someone's special day, un día especial. Dora and Boots are surprised, wondering whose special day it is. They sing "It's Someone's Special Day," a song about a fun-filled day where one gets to play or go anywhere they want. At the end of the song, they sing out, "Who's it gonna be?" Dora and Boots sing the line once, and the Fiesta Trio sings it twice.
Afterward, the Fiesta Trio hands Dora an envelope. She opens it, and inside is a picture of Boots the monkey (with a banana), revealing that it's Boots' special day! Boots is incredibly excited. Dora tells the viewer that on a special day, you get to do whatever you want and might even wear a special crown. Dora checks Backpack for a special day crown for Boots. Backpack is thrilled to hear the news. She has three different crowns: a bean crown, a broccoli crown, and a banana crown. The viewer knows the bean and broccoli crowns are nice, but they believe the banana crown would be perfect for Boots because he loves bananas. The banana crown lands on Boots' head, and he officially becomes King Boots.
Dora asks King Boots what he'd like to do on his special day. Boots thinks for a moment and decides to kick off his special day with a drum parade. He then comes up with another fun activity: visiting the animals at Diego's Animal Rescue Center. Finally, Boots decides to visit his dad at work, an architect building a new roller coaster at a new amusement park. Boots asks Dora if they can do all these fun things: a big drum parade, playing with animals, and visiting his dad at the amusement park. Dora enthusiastically agrees, reminding him it is his special day.
So, Dora and Boots consult Map to figure out how to find all these fun activities. Map is also excited about Boots' special day. The viewer helps locate the drum parade, the animal center, and Boots' dad. Map says Boots can do the drum parade first, and the viewer finds it near the bottom-left corner of the map. After that, they can see the animals at the Animal Rescue Center, which the viewer finds in the middle of the picture with Baby Jaguar (even when Baby Jaguar doesn't physically appear, he's seen on Map's segment). And after visiting the animals, they can visit Boots' dad at the new amusement park. Map also mentions they can catch stars along the way.
Dora and Boots set off, looking for special things for Boots. They find ice cream from an Ice Cream Truck and get a ride on a tugboat across a river. After that, Dora and Boots arrive at the big drum parade. All of Boots' friends are there. Everyone picks a drum to play. Boots wants to play a big red drum because red is his favorite color. The viewer helps find it, and Boots puts the strap of the big red drum around his neck. The Big Red Drum then tells Boots that since it is his special day, he gets to lead the parade. Boots is excited and asks the viewer if they want to help him lead, and they accept.
Everyone lines up behind Boots. He, the viewer, and everyone else start drumming together. They begin slowly, then start drumming faster, and faster, and even faster. The crowd cheers, and some people take pictures as their speed increases. At the end of the parade, the Fiesta Trio plays their special jazzy tune. Boots has successfully led the big drum parade with his friends, and now he and Dora are off to their next activity.
Dora and Boots get a ride on Rojo the fire truck. Afterward, they see Val the Octopus, who has eight yo-yos. Boots is excited to learn that Val is going to give Dora and him a special yo-yo. But suddenly, they hear Swiper the fox. Swiper quickly appears and disappears from different spots, trying to swipe either Boots' crown, the yo-yos—or both! Dora and Boots notice how fast Swiper is moving. Boots decides he won't let Swiper ruin his special day, so he knows exactly what to do. He, along with Dora and Val, shouts, "Swiper, no swiping!" repeating it three times. Swiper responds with, "Oh man!" as he snaps his fingers and runs away.
Now, Dora and Boots each have a yo-yo. Boots tosses a yo-yo to the viewer, and they all begin playing with their yo-yos. After a while, Dora and Boots put their yo-yos away and head to the Animal Rescue Center.
Dora sees her cousin Diego, who comes down to greet Dora and Boots. Diego is also excited to hear it is Boots' special day. He mentions he has a special animal named after Boots' favorite food—bananas—and that the special animal is a banana bird. Diego, Dora, and Boots call out to the banana bird. Sure enough, the banana bird comes and lands on Diego's hand. Diego communicates with the banana bird and tells Boots that the banana bird is also excited for Boots' special day. Boots asks Diego if the banana bird likes bananas. Diego confirms that the banana bird likes to eat sweet things like bananas.
The banana bird flies out of sight. Boots wonders where he went. Diego tells Boots that the banana bird is going to get some bananas for his special day. The viewer helps the banana bird find five bananas on a tree to the far left. Dora, Diego, and Boots each take one. Boots tosses a banana to the viewer, and together they peel and eat their bananas. Boots has one banana left and decides to save it for his dad when he sees him at the amusement park. Boots carefully places the banana inside his crown.
After that, Boots hears the same three stars—red, blue, and yellow—as in "The Lost City." Dora, Diego, and Boots try to catch the fast-moving stars. Suddenly, they see an explorer star who draws, colors, and paints: her name is Artista. She draws a circle and a triangle. Boots wonders what Artista will draw next. Dora asks the viewer what Artista drew. The viewer sees that Artista drew a boot, which Boots loves, referring to his red boots. Diego, Dora, and Boots then successfully catch the stars and put them in the star pocket. Dora and Boots say goodbye to Diego and the banana bird.
Afterward, it is time to see Boots' daddy. They go through the passage bars. The viewer helps find Boots' dad as he watches a bulldozer drive past. Boots goes to his dad, gives him a big hug, and tells him it is his special day. Boots' dad thinks that is great news and is touched to hear that Boots wanted to come and see him. Boots even brought a banana for his dad. He decides to split it in half.
Boots' dad then tells his son and Dora that he and his building crew have just finished building the new roller coaster, and it is ready to go. Dora and Boots want to ride it, so they and Boots' dad get on and pull down the safety bar. The roller coaster car moves along the track and stops at the bottom of the hill. Boots' dad tells Dora and Boots that the Roller Coaster speaks Spanish. So, they have to say "arriba" for "up." They do so, and the Roller Coaster trundles up the track. They keep saying the Spanish word for "up" until Boots' dad tells the Roller Coaster "Pare" for stop. They are high up. Dora can see Benny, Isa, and Tico on the ground, jumping, cheering, and waving at Boots.
Suddenly, Artista comes out of the star pocket and draws a picture for Boots in the sky. After giving Boots a kiss, she goes back into the star pocket. Then, a Boots the monkey hot-air balloon appears, with the Fiesta Trio riding in it, playing their special jazzy tune for Boots once more for his special day. Then, they say "abajo" to get the Roller Coaster down. They get a fast ride downhill. Boots had his best special day ever!

Trivia[]
- This episode is featured in the Nick Jr. Favorites 5 DVD.
- In the Backpack segment, the background was darkened, and instead of items circling around Backpack, she had three doors each with a fruit/vegetable (all beginning with B) crown behind them. The light would be towards each crown. The music is also modified to include some piano for Jazz Style. And this episode is that Backpack has taken out only three items.
- In the Map segment, the path does not trace to the places because Boots can technically do the three activities in any order he wants. However, he just decides to do it in the order shown on the map, since he and Dora always travel in that order.
- The Fiesta Trio plays a special 14-note fanfare in honor of Boots' special day after passing each place and to start the We Did It! song instead of either their normal or extended fanfares.
- This is Diego's fourth appearance (third in production order) and the second time without Baby Jaguar.
- However, Baby Jaguar was seen at the Animal Rescue Center as shown in the picture during Map's segment.
- In this episode, Felipe Dieppa voices Diego without his brother Andres Dieppa. This would happen again in The Super Silly Fiesta, Boots' Cuddly Dinosaur (with Gabriel Alvarez), and Job Day.
- This is the first episode to introduce Boots' father, who is an architect.
- This is the second episode where Boots reveals that his favorite food is bananas, first being El Día De Las Madres.
- It is revealed that red is Boots' favorite color.
- It is possible that red being his favorite color is the reason why Boots always wears red boots in every episode instead of a different color from time to time.
- Boots shows Dora a yo-yo trick before saying what their favorite parts were.
- This is the 67th episode of the show.
- At the Drum Parade, Benny uses the same conga drum from Dora, La Música.
- The scene where Boots said "Ooh-ooh-aah-aah!" after catching Artista can be seen in a SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric promo.
- The Travel Song is replaced by a new song It's a Special Day for Boots.
- Boots says that Swiper is not swiping anything on his special day, but he declares to stop him with the audience, Val, and Dora anyway of not ruining the special day.
- This is the fourth episode Boots stands behind the picture pop-up sequence with Dora, first being Pinto, the Pony Express, second being ¡Rápido, Tico! and third being Save the Puppies!, and he does it all three times, just like in the first and third aforementioned episodes.
- Boots wears his banana crown almost throughout the episode.
- When Dora and Boots are almost finished singing We Did It!, Boots doesn't say "Hooray!", instead, his father says it.
- Speaking of We Did It!, Dora and Boots are not dancing, because they are riding in the roller coaster.
- Something similar happens in Dora and Diego to the Rescue! where they do not dance to the song because of riding the rocket sled.
- Speaking of We Did It!, Dora and Boots are not dancing, because they are riding in the roller coaster.
- Similar to León, the Circus Lion, Boots admits that he liked everything about the adventure. Unlike the aforementioned episode, he thought of at least one favorite part (calling it his favorite favorite part) instead of simply saying that he likes every moment of the trip.
- Also, in the same segment, this is the third episode Dora says her favorite part before Boots, first being Sticky Tape and the second being Call Me Mr. Riddles.
- This is the only time Boots says the word "favorite" twice when he talks about his favorite part.
- This is one of few episodes where the fourth wall is broken. It happened twice in this episode: Boots handed the viewer a yo-yo, then he handed the viewer a banana.
- "Un día especial" means "A special day" in Spanish.
- When the Fiesta Trio says, "Estrellas!" the audio is taken from The Lost City.
- When Map says "There it is!", the audio is taken from ¡Rápido, Tico!.
- When Dora says "You see Swiper?", the audio track is taken from TBA in a higher voice.
- Although it premiered in 2003 on Nickelodeon and in 2004 on Noggin, it was actually made in 2002 according to the credits.
- In some years, this episode could air whenever it's June or Father's Day (most likely because the episode involves Boots spending time with his dad), but this episode premiered in October 2003.
- A real Father's Day episode from Season 7, Feliz Dia De Los Padres, premiered much later.
- Technically, it is Boots' birthday in this episode,
- Technically, "special day" is another way of how we say "birthday", so this could possibly be another episode celebrating Boots' birthday, OR a sequel to Surprise!.
Goofs/Errors[]
- In real life, there is no public holiday called "(Name)'s Special Day". It only happens between people who know each other well (like the family or close friends).
- On the Super Silly Fiesta! VHS and DVD, it says "Boots's Special Day". An extra S is added after the apostrophe. This also applies to the credits of this episode.
- It is unknown what Swiper would swipe when he appeared. It could either be Val the Octopus' yo-yos, Boots' banana crown or both. Luckily, Boots declares to stop him with the audience and Dora anyway of not ruining the special day.
- The thing that Swiper would swipe being unknown previously happened in Bouncing Ball (the first time only) and Lost Map.
- When Boots first talks about visiting his dad saying "My favorite thing in the whole world is to visit my daddy at work!", his tail can be shown so it can look like he has two tails.
