Boots is a five (four for the first 12 episodes, and later five) year old anthropomorphic monkey and Dora's best friend who is the co-host of the series. He likes to hold Dora's hand. Boots sometimes gets discouraged when things go wrong. When he is feeling down, he always bounces back quickly with one of his flips. No one can make Dora laugh the way Boots can.
Description
Boots is a character who Dora met one day in "Dora's First Trip", and is her best friend. He is friendly and enthusiastic and usually, wears his beloved red boots, hence his name. His parents look similar, with variations in eyes, height, and clothing. Boots is present with Dora on most of her adventures, and he helps Dora to solve clues and puzzles. He also loves baseball and is on a team with Dora. He loves to ride Rojo the fire truck and Azul the train.
Personality
Boots is an athletic and energetic monkey. He performs a series of acrobatic flips, somersaults, and cartwheels, along the way to their destination. His lightweight also makes him easy to carry, even for Dora.
Boots also "loves" many things. In one episode, he would say many times (e.g. "I love riddles. Call me 'Mr. Riddles'"; "I love nuts"; "I love chocolate"; "I love my ball"; "…and I love, love, love..."). Most importantly, however, Boots loves Dora and Dora loves him back, as both expressed verbally and physically in numerous episodes. His devotion and love always has Boots more than willing to drop whatever he's doing at the moment and make space in his random mental schedule for Dora. For her sake, he has even engaged in his own single adventures assisted by the viewers.
Boots' Spanish vocabulary is limited but steadily increasing. Dora teaches him Spanish through "memorable" songs and phrases.
Voice
Boots was voiced by Harrison Chad in the first four seasons and then, from seasons five to seven, by Regan Mizrahi; and for season eight, by Koda Gursoy.
Currently, he is voiced by Asher Spence in the new generation series.
Looks
Boots' fur is mostly a periwinkle color, while his cheeks and hands are pink. He has a yellow stomach and a pair of white eyes and black pupils. He is shown wearing a pair of bright red boots with and dark red soles. His tail is also periwinkle with yellow on the end. Whenever he takes his boots off, his feet appear to be pink as well.
In the reboot series, his eyes are given blue irises and his boots have banana patches on the side of his ankles.
Before Boots became a monkey, he was originally going to be a mouse.

Boots appears in every episode of Dora the Explorer, with the exception of Kittens in Mittens, Dora & Sparky's Riding Adventure, and Let's Go to Music School.

Trivia
- Sometimes, when he jumps down to Dora from up in a tree, she tickles him.
- Dora has chosen Boots as her partner to go traveling with and he's the first friend Dora meets and asks to go with her somewhere, since Dora's First Trip.
- He is rarely ever seen without his boots on, as he loves them too much to ever take them off.
- One of the most notable examples is in Big River, in which he accidentally loses one of them in said river.
- In both Backpack! and The Missing Piece, he's seen with only one boot on, due to Swiper taking it in the former and getting stuck in sticky sand for the latter.
- In The Fix-it Machine, one of Boots' boots has a hole in it, so he is not wearing it for the most of the episode.
- When he first met Dora in Dora's First Trip, he jumps out of his boots for a few minutes before putting them back on after getting rid of Swiper.
- During the beginning of Bouncy Boots, he is seen without them on as he is waiting for them being delivered from the repair shop.
- Boots can sometimes be thought of by younger fans of the show, the Noggin website, and Big Sister Dora as Dora's Younger Brother, which he refers himself that he’s going to be the monkey brother of the babies.
- Boots doesn't always travel with Dora in every episode, she sometimes travels by herself without him.
- Boots is not always the only one traveling with Dora, she sometimes travels with other friends such as Isa but only once, and Swiper whenever he's on his good side.
- In Dora's Fairytale Adventure, Dora and Boots don't travel with each other because Boots is under a spell put to sleep making him called Sleeping Boots and Dora has to travel by herself, to help him before it's too late when all the leaves fall off the magic wall.
- In Boots to the Rescue, Boots got to travel by himself without Dora for the first time because Dora doesn't play a major role or appear as the first character due to her being at school and the episode begins at Boots' house instead of school because if it did, then she would be the first character, she's not the host either, Boots got to have the major role and be the host of the show because Dora doesn't travel anywhere with Boots, she's technically a minor character.
- In Isa's Unicorn Flowers, Boots doesn't travel anywhere with Dora because he's playing soccer with Tico, Isa is technically his replacement and is instead traveling with Dora.
- Boots is the only character with more than one Character Find background.
- In Best Friends, Dora and Boots aren't with each other because they're split up and are meeting each other halfway to the same place and are surprising each other with their favorite snacks for their picnic.
- Unlike Dora, Boots has been seen crying whenever he gets disappointed about something, and has also gotten angry (complete with an angry look on his face) when someone mistreats his friends.
- Examples of him crying include:
- Berry Hunt: He's crying because Dora ate all the blueberries and he didn't get any.
- Backpack!: He's crying because he fell and hurt his leg.
- ¡Rápido, Tico!: He almost cries about his firetruck being lost because it is gone and he thought that it came in the mail but somehow fell out on the way when Val the Octopus was delivering it to him.
- Lost Squeaky: He almost cries about his squeaky getting lost.
- Examples of him getting angry include:
- As a monkey, it is unknown if Boots really needs to wear his parka in addition to Dora and Diego. Usually, he wears it, but in Dora and Diego to the Rescue!, Boots did not have his on. However, Swiper did not have a parka regardless of where he was. In real life, a monkey's fur can keep him warm, so it is uncertain if Boots really needs to wear a parka.
- Boots is always saying that he loves everything but he's never said that he doesn't love anything not even to one thing throughout the series, however, he may not like Swiper swiping from Dora or him as he doesn't mention that as a dislike, but like it or not, that's Swiper's job and he still goes on swiping whenever he wants except when someone says "Swiper, no swiping!".
- In the pilot, Boots design and color scheme was very similar to the Grumpy Old Troll but it was changed to pink and gray after that, however Boots' original design would later be reused for one of the new Fiesta Trio gang.
- In some credits, "Boots'" is most commonly misspelled as "Boots's".
- His first line in Dora the Explorer (excluding the theme song) is "Storytime, Storytime, Storytime!".
- His design stayed mostly the same throughout the whole show, despite changes in other shows within the franchise.
- His name came from "boot-up" (another word for "startup") and "reboot" (another word for "restart"), both which are computer terms.
- During the We Did It! song, Boots would almost always jump and click his heels together in the air. This lasted until season 5.
- He is one of the characters who can be woken up by saying "Wake up, (character's name)!". The others are Map, Backpack, Sloth, Grandpa Panda, and Baby Bear.
- When MSCHF came out with their big red boots, the internet often compared them to the same ones Boots wears due to their cartoonish design.
